I feel privlaged as I have season tkts to the Seattle Opera, they are the nose bleed seats but hey, there is nothing like live theater. A freind of mine is studing music at the UW and always goes the movie broadcasts says they are great, I just have a hard time taking that first step when I still can see it live. It is an art form that compares to nothing!
I agree this was a better story than the Were rabbit. I also enjoyed it more, but that may be because I have a 4 year old and it was a bit easier for him to enjoy this one over Were Rabbit!
Never heard of slither, but loved him on Firefly, and love him in Castle! His character on Buffy was creepy though!
Its a sad commentary on our society. Though I have heard the joke several times about hou many Jane Eyre movies there are! The fact US movie makers must shock their audiences to get them to watch films, rather than people wanting to enjoy good cinema makes me crave the forgien laungage section of my movie collection. At least these tend to be the originals that the US rips off!
Sam, "Favourite Captin Hammer line" Have you watched the commentary, where they make Nathon Fillion say that line over and over and over??? I was practically on the floor laughing
I'm watching the Disney channel with my son today and suddenly Parent Trap comes on. Not my favorite classic with Haley Mills, no some random remake with Lindsey Lohan. Then it hits me, the have redone Herbie, Freaky Friday, Escape to Witch Mountian, etc. (Most of them have Lindsey Lohen, which doesn't help the cause either) Why? I LOVED all of those classic movies, what was wrong with them. Why the need to re-do them all, with sub par acting, and bad screen shot by screen shot remakes, with not so subtle modernization. Is our society so far removed from the good classics, that this is what we are doomed to live with?
Those Torchwood episodes cracked me up, I was so excited because poor James Marsden will always be Spike to me!
Dr. Horrible is so wonderful. I actually owen the CD and sing it while cleaning the kitchen all the time! Its been a great pick me up! (odd I know!) Joss is a genius I so far have loved all his series and am so glad Dollhouse is still around!
Just came back from Ponyo, the newest from Studio Ghibli! Great way to introduce my 4 year old to Anime. It is a simple story, but beautifully drawn, the sea creatures are amazing! My son LOVED it, his favorite part, "all of it!" It is a simple story but translates well, I can't wait to be able to see the sub titled version (a small pet peeve) Parts of the story seemed rushed but overall its well worth watching. A great score as well!
"let the right one in" Yes great horror, saw this at a SIFF a year ago, and my hubby and I still talk about it!
I just got to see this as part of a film festival shorts program, and it was well worth the wait! Very funny! It is great to get to introduce my son to Wallace and Gromit on the big screen!
*****spoilers****I agree with phillip on the ending. It was a good culmination for a son who thought his father forgot him, and a wife truly accepting her husband. This film was so beautiful and having just lost my mother-in-law, hard for my husband to watch. But the respect that loved ones are shown, and how people post the dressing reacted because of that respect was wonderfully portrayed. He didn't even do to badly pretending to play the cello, a pet pieve.
saw several great films over the last couple of days at SIFF. One being Departures the foreign language film winner at the Academy Awards this year, and believe me it deserves it! Great acting and a wonderful story! Also saw a South Korean film My Dear Enemy, very "day in the life" type of film, I enjoyed.
The real gem I saw is Moon. Sam Rockwell give one of the best performances I've ever seen! This Independent Sci Fi film is well worth it! An omage to the Sci Fi of the 70's it was a true gem of the festival and a surprise! Opens in NY soon, so keep an eye out for it if you like Sci fi with out the Sci Fi action it truly is a character piece! And Kevin Spacey is wonderful as the voice of Gertie (the computer!)
Over the last two day's saw 2 AMAZING films. If you like action, with an interesting story twist I recommend The Beast Stalker by Dante Lam. Great acting, and a story that had a twist I didn't expect! Also watched The Anarchist Wife from Spain. An interesting commentary on the Spanish Civil war, and how it affected one family. I'll admit I'm a sucker for World War 2 period movies, this one though was different from the standard! They even spliced in actual footage from the time!
The Seattle International Film Festival starts this Friday, so as a pass holder I've been to a couple of press screenings! 1st La Mission, which has Benjamin Bratt in it. He plays a much deeper character than I am used to seeing from him! The more time that has passed the more I like the film and how it deals with "family issues!" It portrayed very real emotions and reactions from society, both positive and negative, in dealing with a young man who is outed by accident. Also saw Headless Woman from Argentina, not as good in my opinion! very slow!
I am excited to see Shrink today with Kevin Spacey, have high hopes for this one!
This was one of my favorite films this year! just how beautiful the filming was, and that as I understood it was done on location, not CGI.
