Loved both Dead Poets AND Dances with Wolves. But I am a girl so that should be expected huh? LOL :-)I think the worst movie I have ever seen was "Inside Man" ICK ICK ICK.
Now I will go back and re-read the rules to how we are to list these! LOL :-)
OMG! Blackmail!!! ACK!!Ok..I will "try" to read P&P. Maybe even start it next. But that means you have quite a lot of movie viewing to do!! :-)
I saw "Love, Sex and Eating the Bones" tonight. I was flipping channels and it was on Bravo. I was SO surprised. IT IS HILARIOUS! That is all I am going to say. Really good movie. I would watch it again. It was made here in Canada and it was fun to see all the landmarks that I knew. Fun!
I will be 41 at the end of the month. I am sure I would be "having one foot in the grave" if the kids think "pushing 30" is old. Sigh. :-)
GASP! You want me to READ Jane Austen??? <in a whiny voice> Isn't WATCHING them enough???? <more whine>. :-) All I can say is "I will try". If I can find P&P amongst all the husband's cra...I mean stuff, I may attempt it. No promises here. The dance scene at the end of Cousins is CLASSIC. Probably is my favorite scene as well, along with the broken lamp. ;)
GOOD GRIEF!!! I was like 21 when I saw "Say Anything"...now you have gone and made me feel ANCIENT Paula. :-)
I have liked Cousins for years. It really touches me. It is cery sweet and lovely and well, I hope someday Paula, you get to see it. I know that Nicholas Sparks isn't a GREAT writer (he's not Henry James or Jane Austen...sorry, its a quote from a movie), but I do like his books. And well, they will never be able to make a movie of The Wedding because of HOW they ended "The Notebook".
I happen to LOVE Jane Austen MOVIES. LOVE THEM. Watch them all the time. Books on the other hand...snooze. I once was on the Metro going from Queens to Westchester and fell asleep reading Persuasion and almost missed my stop!! :-)
Liked The Holiday. It was interesting to see where these characters went.
HOW did you miss "Say Anything"? How old are you anyway?? LOL :-)
Just saw "The Dark Knight"(in IMAX), The Mummy 3, and "Mama Mia" in the theatre. DK was amazing. And scary. And well, dark. The Mummy 3 was a movie where you keep waiting for great things to happen (and you have a feeling that the actors are as well)and are continually let down. Mama Mia was REALLY good. I can't wait to own this one and would actually go and see it again in the theatre if I could find the "sing-along" one playing somewhere. At home we have watched HP 1 and 2 (YES, I had seen them before), Sweet and Lowdown (which was WAY better than I thought it would be)and Love, Actually for the 100th time. :) Have a list a mile long to go and rent, but I hate paying almost 6 bucks to rent a movie. SIGH. AND my stupid cable company shut off our "on-demand"..WHY WHY WHY....I hate Rodgers....
I guess I should as well. Though NONE of them are as great sounding as the above mentioned one :-)
Love, Actually
Hope Floats
Pride and Prejudice (several versions as well)
Sense and Sensibility (with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet)
Nanny McPhee <--I put this one because even though it was marketed as a kid's movie, its ALL about love and the power of it and what you will do for and because of it.
Notting Hill
50 First Dates (because really, who wouldn't want someone that would work so hard to make you fall in love with them EVERY DAY!!...SWOON...)
Cousins (which I have LOVED for years...Its ALWAYS in my top 5)
Say Anything (because really, that is the best love story EVER...)
Oh, and Paula dear, The Notebook movie is NO WHERE near as good as the BOOK. Just sayin'. :-)
OMG Paula!! I should have known you would have a movie like that!! :-) And I mean that in SUCH a good way!! You HAVE to watch it and then let me know how it is...I just LOVE that title. Hilarious!
Love, Sex and Eating the Bones???? I LOVE the title of that. Don't know if I would love the movie (I have never heard of it), but the title alone would make me search it out!!
Tressa,To be honest, I don't know what it is about Holly Hunter. I KNOW she is a good actress..people LOVE her. But for some reason, she just rubs me the wrong way. And heaven knows I have tried watching her stuff over and over. Its more of a personal thing.
It was refreshing to see how many people feel the same way about Andie McDowell. She just makes my skin crawl. <shudder>!
I need to preface this by saying I have seen movies with people from my list in them. Which is probably why I DO NOT like movies with them in it. There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule (but only with a few), and sadly with some of them, I am always willing to give a second (or third, or fourth) chance. Sigh....So here is my list, counting down, because #1 is BIG (snicker..not really, I am just in a weird mood and want to make people smile)....
20. Ethan Hawke. With the exception of "Dead Poet's Society", I have disliked him in everything else. And he's kind of a jerk (it seems) in real life.
19. Halle Berry. YES, I know she can act. I get that. I just don't really care for most of the movies she is putting out. But she was great in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge".
18. Demi Moore. Loved "Ghost" but really, how much can one person cry over the period of a movie...jeesh...
17. Jane Fonda (ICK)
16. Jessica Simpson. I think its all been said before...
15. Vince Vaughn
14. Mike Myers. I loved "Wayne's World" Hilarious. But "Austin Powers"? No thanks....
13. Ben Stiller (with the exception of "Night at the Museum", which I loved!).
12. Will Ferrell (with the exception of "Elf")
11. Owen Wilson
10. Cameron Diaz (though she was funny in "Charlie's Angels" and "The Holiday").
9. Almost ANYTHING Kate Hudson (who I DO like) has done since "Almost Famous" (which was BRILLIANT!!!). I just don't like the movies she is choosing to make.
8. Holly Hunter. Sorry.
7. Jude Law (though I do love his voice....)
6. ANY new Tom Cruise vehicle. Last favorite of his was "Collateral". THAT was an awesome movie.
5. Sylvester Stallone. Really.
4. Jack Black. Though I HAVE made exceptions (twice) and the Husband and in-laws LOVED "School of Rock". For the most part I find him annoying and unclean and well, just yucky.
3. Jim Carrey. I feel he has done some amazing work and has the potential to do more of that same stuff, he just never chooses to go there. Sigh. What a waste.
2. The Lame "action" Hero (re: Steven Segall, Jean Claude Van Damme, Vin Diesel, The Rock, etc..). GIVE IT UP ALREADY!! :-)\
And the number one on my list of LEAST FAVORITE actor/actress is.....(drum roll please).....
1. ANDIE McDowell. Yes folks, I agree with most of you. I think she cannot act her way out of a wet paper bag. In my opinion, she has neither presence OR talent. We happen to love the movie "Four Weddings and a Funeral". We would love it more if she wasn't IN IT. We are always wondering if they could superimpose someone else's face onto her's and put their voice in there as well and then the movie would be SO much better!! And don't even get me started on "Green Card". ICK. I mute her hair color/skin cream commercials. ICK.
There you go. Have a nice day!! :-)
Just looked up "Playing by Heart" and am going to go and see if I can rent that. HOW amazing it looks. Will let you all know what I think.Everything Illuminated has NOTHING to do with the Russian Mob. This story has everything to do with family, love and what you are willing OR not willing to do for said things. Its one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen and I am STILL recommending it to people.
Tressa: I have not read the book (I have been unable to find it), so I cannot tell you if it gets better or worse. I think you should just go and see the movie. Maybe that will help you read the book. I know the movie will have an impact on your life.
WOW! What did I miss while watching "Notes on a Scandal" I wonder?? Because I really DID not like this movie and ended up not watching it to the end. It was just so disappointing for me because there was so much hype for it. It really kind of creeped me out. But now I wonder? Should I give it another go, or just let it be??
Oooooooo, Heathers!!!!! Its out in a special edition. I just saw a review of it on Ebert and Roeper. I am SO going to go and pick that up. I LOVE the lines from that movie. I just loved the music from "Pump up the Volume". And I loved the characters in this movie. How CS moves almost seamlessly from quiet-shy-boy to an in-your-face DJ still continues to amaze me. LOVE IT!!
You know I know of another really great film, but I have NO idea what the name of it is...I have seen it several times and never had the presence of mind to write the name down. I do know that it has Jean Reno and Mercedes Ruehl....OK...went to IMDB and actually found it....Its called Roseanna's Grave. Sounds morbid, but its not. Has anyone else seen this fantastic movie???
I am anxious actually to read the book. The movie just blew me away. It was SO complex. I do NOT understand why it didn't get more press. To me (and I mean NO disrespect here), I think its just as an important movie as "Schindler's List". Maybe even more so. And you would have to have seen it to understand why. I am now on the hunt to find it and buy it. And I too am a HUGE fan of Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. :)
