When you need to establish a connection between them either loving or is it just a sexual relationship? I've noticed lately "love scenes" or "sex scenes" to be in very few movies lately because I guess they're afraid of the NC-17 rating. But any kind of violence doesn't even rate debate about using a NC-17 for a hacker movie. Which is more obscene seeing two people having sex or watching them get hacked apart in the most creatively grusome the "filmmakers" can think of?
I should see The History of Violence got good reviews & the word of mouth I've seen here has been positive.
The same reason every studio in the world is remaking every movie ever made. Can't wait for the Plan 9 remake!

As for 2012... Isn't it odd that the cell phones keep on working while the world is falling apart? :D Not seen the film, but it's my understanding that they..."
Cell phones have become the plot point of the moment. Failing when they need to to advance the script and working as the modern machina-ex-deus.
Please don't tell me they're remaking Some Like it Hot! Because you're right Tom it what they would do to it!

George,
I agree! At the end I was wondering why she would have doubt since the priest didn't call her bluff, she would have had no doubt. I always thought the movie had to deviate somewhat from the play because at the end there's no reason for her to doubt.

Cissy,
I saw to Live & Die In LA last year. I had this power in which if I started to want to see movies I hadn't seen in a while they usually showed up on TV fairly quickly, & that happened with Live & Die. I still liked it, & William Peterson looks young in it. Unfortunately this power has waned since then.
I've never seen the movie all the way through, I only catch it at the end for some weird reason. I should watch it all the way through once. Maybe it's my childhood dislike of black & white movies??
There seems to be a new trend in Hollywood. To violate the rules of character of established characters. In Sherlock Holmes' case Conan-Doyle isn't going to complain. & in the case of Star Trek compromised the character of Spock.
Breaking Benjamin FANATIC! (Ariel) wrote: "I liked Michael Keaton as a Batman and Bruce Wayne."
So did I. To paraphrase Roger Ebert, in his eyes he looked crazy enough to put on a bat suit. & I thought he looked good as Bruce Wayne. But of course they started taking that series of Batman's down cartoon lane.
Tom,
I pretty much agree with your 1st paragraph. I'm always conscious of it being Johnny Depp up there, but for me, I also see the character he's portraying, it's never "oh, it's Johnny Depp just being Johnny Depp again." I thought it a bit disconcerting that at the begininng of Public Enemies that everyone was calling him Johnny until I remembered Dillingers first name was John. Maybe I was a bit addled the morning I saw the movie.
I thought Billy Crudup totally became Hoover. I couldn't place who was playing Hoover the whole movie but I knew I'd seen him in other things.

Cool, a review on Public Enemies & Manhattan Melodrama!
Art can't always be beautiful paintings of apples on a table or a nice snowy mountain. Art is supposed to be a reflection & like Dorian Gray in the portrait sometimes it's not beautiful but needs to be exposed. Art is also supposed to upset us, to make us think, & discuss...
When Ebert was reviewing with Richard Roeper I had this system I would trust Eberts reviews of the more high brow movies, and trust Roepers reviews for the more action oriented movies.

How is Roger Ebert supposed to make a living then!
Lets add Vin Diesel (is that a name?) to the list. Have never seen anything (movie)that he can be considered good in.
I second Rob Schneider! That guy would be a waiter in a LA restaurant if Adam Sandler didn't keep putting him in his movies!
Will Ferrell a close second.

C'mon, admit it, you did that on purpose.

I think you'll like it.
