the big bang requires a Big Banger.
I keep telling my girlfriend that, but she always says she has a headache.
I am not very knowledgable about the bible
Yet, you give us a load of BS about believing in the Christian God which is based on the Bible. Good show, old boy. Good show.
Trusting in God is not a matter of proof or scientific analysis. Regardless of sacred text or total lack of sacred text belief in a higher power is a personal choice.
Belief in a higher power is simply nonsensical, "sacred" text or not. What is your basis for belief in this God? Where is your evidence? If you simply believe whatever you wish to believe without any evidence, there is not one person on the face of the planet that should take you, or your beliefs, seriously.
You use these literal readings of the Bible as fodder and to turn peoples eyes from the true message of the scripturesThis always cracks me up. You would think God could have simply wrote the true message of the scriptures in the scriptures. I mean, is God the most retarded asshole in the universe or something? He can't simply have people write down what he actually means? I have a real problem when people dislike the literal meaning of anything.
"Well, you can't read that for the literal meaning. You need to read it for my meaning."
Seriously, you cannot possibly be so obtuse not to see the ridiculousness of your statements.
You mean I don't really exist, that I'm not even a power unit in the Matrix, I'm just an NPC in a video game being played by spoiled rich kids with a really, really powerful Windows based computer?I'm just pissed that I am living in a video game which is more complex than the video games I play for entertainment. I mean, can't they update my virtual PS3 so that I can use it to bang virtual hot chicks?
So, 1/3 for reality is real, 1/3 we really live in the Matrix -- what's the last third?
I can't remember how it went exactly. One of Dan's buddies told him there was a 1/3 chance we were living in The Matrix. I forget his "logic" on this, but I do remember having a good laugh about it.
My response was, "So that means I have a 50% chance of winning the Lotto? Because either I will or I won't? Awesome! I am playing tomorrow. If I buy two tickets, I am almost guaranteed to win!"
I agree that it's generally useless to give any brain-in-vat scenario equal priority, or even any priority, to the observed world.
I believe you and I both know there is a 33.3% chance that we are living in The Matrix. Ha ha.
Alex also attacked your nonsense, but I guess that does not count against the claim that he agrees with itHoly shit, I hope you aren't deferring to Alex for a ruling on sound judgment. He is far off the beaten path on that one.
"The worship of the one God sets man free from turning on himself, from the slavery of sin and the idolatry of the world."
Here is a quote for you:
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."
- James Madison
So what? You quoted something. I can quote people too. Quoting things and people doesn't actually make the quotes true.
I just am amused when he starts in on contradicting himself -- again.Believe me, I am completely with you on that. It was just funny because I thought it was over for a bit then it started back up again. Ha ha.
Dan, I think you know my meaning, I am aware evolution isnt an entity.Your meaning still makes no sense at all. Even if evolution could approve or disapprove of things, it certainly wouldn't have anything to say about marriage. Fucking like a wild animal with multiple partners is far removed from monogamous or polygamous marriage. They aren't related at all.
Just so you know what the reason is NOT. Its not because women are inferior or less holy.
Actually, that is exactly it. One argument is that Christ was a man, and the head of the Church so a woman cannot be a head of a church. Huh?
The other, according to the Cathecism, is this:
"Only a baptized man validly receives sacred ordination."
So their reason is, only men can be priests because only men can be priests.
Good one. If there isn't sexism under it all, I will eat three raw eggs with the shells on them.
A man cant become a nun, is that unfair?
A man can become a monk, which is the equivalent.
What is unfair is the reasoning behind why a woman cannot become a priest. The reasoning is sexist and, therefore, wrong.
The schisms of the church are a great tragedy.
The real tragedy is the fact that there is still a church at all.
So far not only have you not acknowledged the ever growing mass of evidence against christianity and the church, you have nothing whatsoever to support this outrageous claim about the supposed good of the church.
Great point.
And let's be clear, no matter how much good religion might do, it still does plenty of bad. The good and bad religions does (or is done in the name of religion) only speaks to the utility of religion. It doesn't speak to the truth or falsehood of it.
However, logic, reason, history and science sure do. Religion is bullshit and, unfortunately, Alex has yet to figure that out. He doesn't understand that simply because he feels all warm inside when he thinks of Jesus, doesn't mean Jesus is real. I feel are warm inside every single time I day dream about winning the Lotto Jackpot. However, all my hopeful dreaming doesn't make me winning an actuality.
Do you think that you could be a fundamental anti-theist?
I definitely am an anti-theist. I am because I am anti-ridiculousness and anti-nonsense. I am a supporter of science, not of unsupported claims.
I depend on logic and science. You depend on myths and legends. You are the one who wants to control others' actions because of myths and legends. I don't. If anyone is the fundamentalist, it is you, not I.
The jury is still out on that one.
I would never say that I 100% know there is no god (while you likely say that you 100% know there is). However, there is certainly no reason to believe there is a god. Because of that, I take the default position that there is not. There certainly is no reason for any human to change the way he acts because you believe he is acting immorally because of your belief in myths and legends.
I did say once that spirituality is a search for God.God doesn't exist. That's why I don't need to search for him. Since I don't need to search for him, I clearly have no need for spirituality. Since I have no need for spirituality, none of the things you say are harmful to one's spirituality can possibly apply to me.
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." --Nathan take note :)
Fuck off.
Spirituality is a real aspect of the human condition, our wisdom with regard to spirituality has developed and been passed down for thousands and thousands of years, and it is our spiritual aspect that is most seriously damaged.
I have asked you several times to define spirituality. If you have done this and I missed it, please point out where you have done this. You can't talk about certain things being detrimental to spirituality if you can't define spirituality.
Surely these are all reliable witnesses and describe actual data and occurrences. Don't they?True enough. My mistake.
You speak of free choice but, how do young people have the choice not to be bombarded with sexual imagery, or to try and live more spiritual lives. Especially when they are ridiculed by people like Nathan and J.
How are they to have free choice when people like you attempt to make them feel guilty for being human and fulfilling human needs?
