KrisT...what did you think of Tarkington's style? I read a book by him in HS called 'Seventeenth ..."
Carol, I can believe that you came across such rudeness when it comes to certain kinds of books. Every so often I come across posts like that and I think we all need to have an 'open mind' when it comes to books and reading as it is all relative. Even when you have a book that has been studied by many and interpreted by bazillions it still only is to you what it is to you.
TMagAbersons is set back in time too and the social issues of the time and the lingo are evident. The car industry is just beginning to take off and so you have the social commentary in this book and you have the environmental impact of things too. I have to say I didn't think I would like this book and the main character of the story makes it hard to like him for sure, but I did like it. I think it had lots to say about the times and frankly it is relative to today in many ways also.
This is the only book by him that I have read so far. I might be picking up his other Pulitzer in the future though and it will be nice to compare.
