Finished up All the Great Pretenders, but just... skimmed thru the last part. Wasn't at all interested in whodunnit. Am now starting I Am the Cheese, which really isn't a mystery, although it is mysterious. I read it eons ago so I thought I'd give it another go. The beginning is certainly gripping. *peddle, peddle*
REading All the Great Pretenders, which isn't thrilling me, but it's entertaining enough.I have a few better things coming up, so this will clear my palate so to speak...

I want to read that one... hopefully I can find it at the library!

Kathy wrote: "Hayes wrote: "Started the third Russell/Holmes book ..."This is my third read through of the series... just love them. I decided to send them on a book spiral, so I'm reading them one last time before I send them off... then I will read The Language of Bees.
Has anyone read that one yet?
Just finished The Terra-Cotta Dog. Such a good story (the second in the series). Liked the history of Sicily during WWII, love the way Camilleri switches back and forth between the Italian and the Sicilian dialect--Sicilian when he wants to describe a typical emotion or situation, Italian when he wants to make sure the reader has understood a point. (Wonder if, and how, that is done in translation.)A classic next: The Annotated Alice The Definitive Edition

great cover!!
$5 for a free sign up...? Is it 5 dollars or is it free?
I thought spammers were smarter than that...
*tee hee*
I've got 8 million of her books on my list (well, you know what I mean), all of which have 4 or 5 stars ... and I think it was when she was seriously plugging the language of bees ... I dunno... I'm not really good with the virtual friend thing anyway, being such a newcomer to the world of internet, so I jsut said no.
she (or her assistant) made a friend request, which I refused... I don't really feel comfortable reading and reviewing authors' things if I think they are looking over my shoulder.
Laura wrote: "Hayes wrote: "I didn't really like the Martinelli series either, and except for The Art of Detection (which has a Sherlock Holmes tie in and was quite good) I have read only the first..."I read touchstone. It was more a spy story than a mystery. Good, but not as good as some of her other things.
4 mysteries in a row!! A Plague on Both Your Houses was good, A Royal Pain a fun fluffy thing, Whose Body? always brilliant, and Maigret and the Headless Corpse which I read in Italian. Excellent and dark. I've got a series of Rumpole stories coming up soon (and Stiff...can't wait for that!!)
http://www.enotes.com/short-story-critic...YOu could try here... mentions Edgar Allen Poe, and G.K. Chesterton (who was a little later), but I didn't sift through the site.
