I find that I really like crime dramas on TV. Those are the kind of thing that I'll watch when I watch TV, which is rare.
I love "CSI: NY", and Law & Order (all of them, though "SVU" is my favorite - LOVE Christopher Meloni!).
I've just watched a full day's worth of Law & Order on TV at my dad's house. I just get so hooked to these shows and I have to know what happened. It kills me not to know, so I have to finish the episode once I've started.
I also loved The Wire, which I have on DVD - all 5 seasons, though I've been putting off watching season 5. I don't want it to end!
I also loved Oz. I loved the characters in that show. They were so interesting and unique.
And, sorry, I've had a few beers tonight, so I'm probably rambling. LOL. :P
O_o Southerners don't rush their speech, but it's not THAT slow that it would draw a 3 hour story out to 17.
I've never listened to the audio, but I will say that audio can add to the intensity of a situation if the reader is good. I listened to a sample, and the reader seems OK... Kind of "matter of fact". Oddly, the sample on audible is the rape scene. You'd think that they'd have chosen something a little less disturbing! LOL
And I also wonder what the heck could have been left of the abridged version. The unabridged version is 17 hours and 22 minutes, but the abridged is only 2 hours 55 minutes. That's 14 1/2 hours missing!
Errr... Well, if you don't like the "Good Ol' Boy" mentality, that book probably isn't for you. I grew up in the South, and a lot of that book reminds me of home. Not always in the best way, but still.
Aside from that homesick nostalgic reason of mine, it's a legal thriller that brings to light the racism and hatred of the Deep South and combats it. It's not a pretty fight, but it is a compelling one.
I have to say it is one of my favorite books, and is absolutely my favorite Grisham.
Reading: The Tehran Conviction: A Novel of Suspense by Tom Gabbay. Pretty interesting so far... Historical too. :)
Heather, you HAVE to read The Rainmaker. Both the book and the movie are excellent! The Runaway Jury is really good too. But really, The Rainmaker is really high on my list. I'd say #2 after A Time To Kill, which is my favorite.
I don't understand what you mean... We're going to read Murder on the Orient Express until August 15th and then read Mistress of the Art of Death? Is that what you mean?
YAY! It's very good. It is my favorite Koontz book, and for a while, I read it over and over, as if it was a King book.
I already own it, so of course they had 8 copies at the library sale! Poor Fi, were you at the library or did you try to buy it?
Hmm... I figured out where I heard it before: the movie 21, although it wasn't an asian person who said it. LOLAnd the Urban Dictionary says:
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
The legend tells that years ago every casino in Las Vegas had a three-piece chicken dinner with a potato and a veggie for $1.79. A standard bet back then was $2, hence when you won a bet you had enough for a chicken dinner. !”
So, the call of glorious victory rang out “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
