The Stories Julian Tells, the Penderwicks, Clemintine by Pennyparker are what comes to mind right now.
Kevin Henkes, Ian Falconer (Olivia books), Laura Child and Mo Willems is great too (but it was already mentioned).
You could try the Lucy Rose series by Katy Kelly. Lucy Rose is 8 and her parents are seperated so she spends time with her grandparents. Amber Brown is another series, but she is 9. These are both chapter books. I think Fred Stays With Me is a really good picture book about divorce.
Esprenza Rising and Becoming Naomi Leon both by Pam Ryan. Virginia Hamilton and Christopher Curtis (author of Bud Not Buddy). Also for younger readers the Stories Julian tells series by Ann Cameron or Mary Hoffman (author of Amazing Grace). That's what comes to mind right now.
I just started reading Patricia Wrede series Dealing with Dragons. Cimorene is definitely a princess with lots of spunk. She wants to fence, learn magic and Latin and find adventure, which is everything her mom and dad (the king and queen) don’t want her to do. A great story so far. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
