That is a great idea! Thanks for posting this, my daughter starts regular school hours this coming school year and I was kind of dreading the whole morning thing. Hopefully, this will make it easier. We haven't read any Silverstein together yet. She got Where the Sidewalk Ends: The Poems and Drawings of Shel Silverstein for Christmas.

I bet they enjoyed it! That sounds like a fun memory.
188 My daughter is 5, 6 in a few months. I could not imagine no longer reading to her. In fact, she did not want to learn to read for a long time. Saying things like, "It is boring to learn to read." Even when she saw her younger cousins reading she still showed no interest. Well, I know my daughter and when she wants to learn something, she does, and picks it up quickly. I never pushed the idea. I wanted my daughter to enjoy being a kid, that is very important to me. Well, come to find out she didn't want to learn to read because she thought that meant she wouldn't be read to any longer! She was really bothered by that. She has since figured out reading to others can be fun too. Although, she still prefers to be read to. She now reads at a first grade level having just begun showing interest later in this school year. Now, she is enjoying thinking about reading to her future brother or sister!

She is coming to a neighboring town for an event. The book looks very cute. It would be nice to get signed books for Christmas.

188 I'm also looking for books for my daughter who is just beginning to read. I am looking for books that have 1-4 letters per word. 5 would be okay with the use of s. I know some exist. She too is currently reading the beginning reader Bob books. I am looking for others for when she is done with those. I will look at those already listed but wanted to post in case some knows of any not already listed. Thanks!

I'm Eva & I just joined the group. I know this is an older discussion, however when I went to the begining and saw the book titles on here, I just had to say… WoW! total blast from the past...."

HI Eva, I think it is wonderful that you had a book you loved so much. I think you should call your mom to see if she knows what happened to it. My 3 1/2 year old has attached herself to the dictionary. Perhaps because it is big and red. It is heavy too. Ever since she was a baby she loved trying to tote heavy things. She can't quite grasp the word for it. To her it is either the "reckonary or bookenary". It has been in her bedroom and it sleeps with her on the side of her bed on the floor where she can see it. =)
188 Brenda wrote: "I wasn't able to find the title for the Amelia Bedelia on the list at the library, it's probably checked out. All of the Holiday themed ones are out so I did read Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia ...."
We just read Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia yesterday. I had it in the house and didn't remember until we read Amelia Bedelia. Perfect time to remember! My daughter really enjoyed this one too. She giggled. I agree Amelia is a hilarious. My daughter noticed right away that Mr. Rogers and Mrs. Roger did not look the same as in the first book we read. She said, "That isn't Mr. Rogers. That isn't Mrs. Rogers." Thankfully Amelia looks the same. Little eyes catch everything. She even put together who Santa Clause was. =)
188 Cheryl in CC NV wrote: "Just in case you didn't know, there are several books, in a few different 'levels,' of Amelia Bedelia books."

Thank you Cheryl, I was thinking of buying Kaylee some more Amelia Bedelia's for under the tree. =)
188 I had so much fun revisiting Amelia Bedelia with my little one. She has asked me to read it 5 times over the course of a few days. It brought me back to my childhood where I read many Amelia books.

My daughter is a little young for understanding all the puns, but each time I read it I giggled at parts and told her why it was funny. She gets it now. I explained what it means to draw the drapes vs draw the drapes, etc.

I love Amelia as much as when I read my first Amelia Bedelia book. She's quirky, she's hilarious, she's kindhearted, and she's a hard worker. I can't help but wonder when are they going to make an Amelia Bedelia movie? I'm so glad she was a hit with the group.
