Kernos,
I really recommend the Gregor the Overlander series. Fantasy though.
Maybe A Wrinkle in Time, one of my childhood favorites?
I'm reading The Martian Chronicles, of course, and I'll start The Hero of Ages today.
Next on my list is The Grapes of Wrath and then if I have time I'll try the Riddle-Master series.

Perhaps it would be helpful to close the previous year's thread. ie... this one...
The last time I lost a book I lent it to a friend who lent it to a friend. I haven't replaced it in the slight hope I might actually get it back.
I once used a Barnes and Noble Gift certificate as a bookmark, then shelved the book and desperately hunted for the gift certificate. I found it a few years later when I pulled the book out for a reread.
Pat, you have the right idea. I am most likely to check out a book if the author has been contributing to the group in a meaningful way.
When I see author spam disguised as posts, I don't even consider them or their book.

Firefly is one of my all time favorite shows. I agree that they didn't give it a proper chance with poor time slots and showing the season out of order. I'm glad we have things wrapped up with the movie, but I'm not ok with the cancelation. I think they had a lot more story to tell.
If a moderator could please remove the "Featured" designation on some of the polls, then they will sort with the most recent one first!
I don't mind if we keep the old polls, I would just like to be able to find the new ones easily.

I agree.
Michael wrote: "My hope is that when you are done reading it you will: Think it was a fun read but that it is too short, that you want to know more about the people and places, and be eager for the next installment to satisfy this desire. And what you will not be consciously aware of, is that you have acquired a basic working knowledge of the world of Elan. You will have a vague understanding of the religion and church systems, the political structures, the races, the history, the general setting and most of the main characters. All of this will have come to you while you were distracted reading this fun story."
Mission Accomplished.
I really enjoyed how you just told the story rather than slow us down with the details.

The Crown Conspiracy by Michael J. Sullivan

LOL Becky
Anyone who is an active participant in this group is not going to drop it because of a little glitch like that. Those 2 (or was it 4) people probably had forgotten they even joined our group before they got those lovely 7 emails.
I just laughed relieved that I hadn't neglected to check my inbox for weeks and missed something important.
I agree with Steven. I don't participate in the discussion unless I have something to add. Usually someone else has already expressed my viewpoint; only more eloquently than I could say it. I think I would make a poor discussion leader, although I may occasionally have a good book to submit.
However, I do agree that we need to limit the number of nominations. I don't have the time to seriously consider 30 books to decide which one I would like to read and discuss. My method recently has been to pick two or three of the nominations at random, read the reviews and pick one.

I think I could do a book a day if I didn't have any other responsibilities. I average about two books a week and one of those is usually an audiobook. I don't watch a lot of TV, maybe 2-3 hours a week.
I will be reading The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan, The Gathering by Anne Enright, A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth Bunce, and Bitterwood by James Maxey.
I avoid books with foul language. I know it is realistic in some situations, but I still don't want to "hear" it.
