1865 Avempartha by Michael J. Sullivan Part of a seris but can also be read as a stand alone.

1865 I still think wizard of Earthsea is my favorite - might have something to do with it being my first.

1865 Great news Janny - Congrats, I hate it when the publishers get in the way of the reading public getting their hands on good books - I'm so glad that it is finally a done deal.

1865 I too am a "trekie" fan...don't get me wrong. And the movie had some great chemstry. I think my bigest issue is I was so hyped - had heard so many good things - etc etc it was a long way to fall for me.

1865 What were your first impressions on this book?

1865 I can't say I'm an expert on the differences in Brit-Wit etc. I'm not a huge fan of Monty Python or Benny Hill etc - but I found Good Omens completely hillarious!

Agree - the best thing about that convation is how many times Crowley said .... "The thing is..." It had me in stitches.

1865 Personally I have "many" scenes from this book that are memorable - but I'll let you all start - then I'll chime in.

1865 Time travel storeis in general - where people go back - are difficult to do well. After all if you can go back and fix things - that there isn't much of a problem is there? I've seen very few do this well - though from a movies perspective - I thought "12 Monkeys was exceptional".
1865 Michael's book: [The Crown Conspiracy|4345290:] just had another blogger post a review at Bookworm's Library Blog. I love how the bloggig community is really talking this up.

I'm really glad he enjoyed it so much especially since it appears he went into it with trepidation. IT is always a gamble going with a new relatively unknown author but then again that is how some of the best "gems" are found.

I've not yet read any Abercrombie...but have been hearing a lot of the buz about Best Served Cold and will definitely be looking into it.

First let me say I'm not a "raving Twlight fan" - I did find Twlight a very compelling read and read it very quickly. I got "cooled" by Book 2 and think that Book 3 was a bit better - I've not read the last one yet.

That being said - I much prefer Midnight Sun to Twilight - I really like seeing things from Edward's perspective and I really like the interactions with his family. It is an interesting concept to do the same story two times from different perspectives. I liked the partial draft and will probably pick up the full book if/when it is released.

No C+ is not bad....it is just not what I go out looking for. I don't think every book has to be an A - in fact there are very few that fall into that category for me. I guess what I was hoping for was a B so ya it didn't miss the mark by much.

1865 I'm not sure I agree with there was no "YA" when it was written. There may not have been an "official" YA classification - but two of the pioneers of the genre C.S. Lewis and Tolkien both had YA offerings and non YA offerings (Narnia = YA, Screwtape letters = Non YA) The Hobbit = YA, Lord of the Rings = Non YA.

To clarify my definition of YA is a book that generally has a under 18 progatonist (or feature character) and is targeted at people who are 18 and younger.

One might argue that The Hobbit does not satisfy that category because the Hobbits were old - but in many ways they were portrayed with characteristics that chidren can identify with and Tolkien himself said he wrote it for childen so I'm willing to bend my rule a bit for that one.

1865 Well first off....I don't think classics go out of style (IMHO) - it is what makes them classic. Casablanca is as good a watch today as it was when it came out. I would not have put this book in a "classics" category.

I didn't hate it. I also felt it was "dated" but quite frankly I don't think there was much "there" ... "there". I also think I suffered from high expectations as I know she has a popular series that I had never tried.

Anyway those are my 2 cents on the subject.

1865 For those trying to be "sensative" to not offending others...Of course we all know that "Retard" is derogative and offensive...for years the PC term was "Mentally Retarded" this is now looked upon as a pejorative - the new term is "intellectually disabled". Just FYI
