1865 "Also, it never made sense to me how Pham became in charge on the ship" mostly due the the strength of his character and more importantly the godshatter, he was a transcendent being stuff ina human body.

THe Tines have got to be one of the best realized aliens I've read. The biological counterpoint point to the (then) emerging abilities of parallel computing was way way ahead of its time. Vinge did a great job of ratcheting up and down the tension throughout the book. Characters were moderately well written and kept true to their personalities.

Though great this book isn't nearly as awesome as his newer work Rainbow Sky.

1865 One night when it was really cold I burned these books for warmth. They toasted a tasty marshmallow. Sorry for the light flaming.

1865 I just gave away or sold about 2000 books. Those are the books I've retained since two(separate) house fire destroyed previous collections.

I spent some time torrenting to recover copies of previously read books. Ebooks are great and you can read em on your ipod in the dark!

1865 Read
House of Suns- Alastair Reynolds- no one write hard sf like an astronomer
The Road- Cormac McCarthy- apocalype with a strong thread of hope
THe Books of Virga- Karl Schroeder- These books are amazing. Perfect World building. THese books will be a movie/series

I enjoyed the Gene Wolfe books but feel kind of dreary after reading them.
