As an adaptation of "I, Robot," it was a complete failure.
But that was because the studio bought the novel rights for the name only. They then..."
i think that was the biggest problem, i usually don't mind too much when movies really only have very little in common with the books in terms of plot etc
but will smith is just too "cool" to be an asimov protagonist

I believe I've read that Joss Whedon was pretty unhappy with the movie too. That the studio ch..."
maybe the problem with the movie was the 90210 guy

i think some of the more interesting things are when scifi starts exploring the morality of the binding A.I.s robots etc to laws
remember that star trek episode when that guy wanted to take Data apart? (off topic a bit, but i've also always felt droids were slave labour in star wars :)

i also thought the movie was more caves of steel than I, robot
but i thought the movie was absolutely horrible and probably kind of missed the point of asimov
doesn't this kind of start to get into the discussion of the definition of scifi vs fantasy?
is "fantasy" to narrowly defined?
in stephen's first post, many novels are mentioned as scifi, but i somehow feel they could easily be "fantasy" if maybe you stuck the setting in the past and threw in some dragons and put a big ancient map at the beginning :) (oh, and something to do with a sword with some kind of special power)
also i think in many ways, scifi by it's very nature tackles the human condition uniquely. my personal feeling is that (when they do so) stories can be scifi, not because they are set in the future, or deal with technologies not presently in existence, but by examining the place of humanity in the future, the "what if" is also what would we (humanity, etc) be like, how would we respond, etc.
here is a situation that is purely imagination, but extrapolated from the present scientific knowledge, and this is a story of the people who live with this situation in their lives as fact
speaking of stargate and farscape, (completely off topic i guess) but i really liked the farscape spoof on the 200th (or whater ever) episode of stargate sg-1!
i absolutely hated The Pillars of the Earth too!
the most disappointing book i read this year was Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto
it was alright, but the only chapter i really liked was the one about star wars and reality bites
from what i can figure out, you have to set up your queue on the netflix website so no buying of movies
i found the selection was ok...especially since i was checking documentaries
i signed up for netflix just to check it out (on xbox)...seems to work out ok, except my connection speed isn't so good
i never liked the idea of watching movies on my pc to begin with, and this seems like a good idea
i really liked mass effect, but i found the side quests on the planets to be kind of repetitive and tedious
(game i finished, so that's got to count for something)
one problem i have with gears is if you have to start a checkpoint over and over again (cause sometimes i kind of suck) you have to sit thru a cut scene or something
i always get really close to the end...and then somehow loose interest and move on...although it seems games are getting shorter these days
i'm personally not impressed with marketing that says "over 60hrs of gameplay" and stuff. it kind of puts me off, i'm not sure i'm interested in investing that much time into a game
i really like gears of war cause you finishable in a reasonable time, and it's fun to play over again
Jensownzoo: I rarely finish games too!, i'm not talking just about the 360, seems i never actually get around to completely finishing most games
anyone else have this problem?
in fact, the way i personally rate games is first based on whether or not i actually get around to finihing the whole game
Angie: did you get gears? i've been kind of playing off and on all weekend. what do you think?
i don't know, some website for the show and something about iowa or idaho or something
haven't looked into it no time
half life was/is good, it also helps it was a good game
i really liked the story from deus ex:invisible war on the old xbox
