Not allowed? Really? That's interesting...I wonder why that is. What is the clause wording that prevents them doing it and why the publisher would require it?
Oh, that is so awesome, I got to meet him at a book signing a few years ago, he is very cool. I'll let you know if I have any questions :)
Here Here Jerry! I will always be a lover of goodreads, you guys are all awesome, nothing will change that, and really we should feel sorry for him because he missed a great opportunity to be a part of this great community.
I know, my 3 authors I've invited who accepted were very happy. I wish he was trying to be satirical...but I don't think he was. Shannon Hale's blog entry was about the pros and cons of actually awarding stars to reviews or just letting the reviews stand on their own. Shannon asked, for those who review on goodreads, or other similar sites, if the reviewing process has changed our reading habits, which I think is a very interesting idea. Nathan's response, aside from the above was just: "I read for one reason, sweet, sweet, selfish pleasure. And I HATE discussing it afterwards. It was for me, nobody else."
So maybe it's a personal dislike of the concept of reviews, but I think it might be some personal experience. He, at some point, wrote a bio for goodreads, so maybe someone tainted the experience for him. I just hate to think that someone would let a few bad eggs ruin the wonders of goodreads. I'm also glad to say there were people who spoke up in goodreads defense.
If anyone's interested the full post is here, and I think it's a very interesting discussion, the not liking goodreads comment aside:

Has anyone ever encountered authors that are vehemently opposed to goodreads? I was just wondering because I'd think they'd either be indifferent/didn't have the time or excited. I never thought an author would be guns a blazing hatred for the site and then I was on Shannon Hale's site earlier and Nathan Hale, the author/illustrator said (if it was him, it linked to his site so you can't be 100% sure, but the dislike came across plainly):
"I dislike social reading and I LOATHE Goodreads. Do yourself a favor, quit Goodreads, cancel your account and never look back. It sours your reading."
I really was shocked by this. Everyone is allowed their own opinion, but this just seemed mean to me. I was wondering if anyone had ever had an experience that's similar, because I've been on this site a few years and this is a first to me.
So I didn't mess it up I just copied Otis' and then changed it a bit. But yours should have worked...where you on your homepage, and just typed in the what are you doing field and hit update? Cause that should have done it...I too am a luddite when it comes to twitter, other stuff no so much, twitter, yes.
Sent my tweet out! And despite having been on Twitter for awhile it was only the second one I ever sent :P
Yeah, when I wrote my 3 authors I made sure to tell them they can be involved as little or as much as possible, but I think having it part of the invite info would be great.
Yeah, here's hoping she accepts! Also Michael Norman accepted, but he's not linked to his profile yet either...hmmm
I sent an invite to Lisa Lutz, I don't know if anyone ever has, I noticed her on the wishlist and she's really nice, I've emailed her a few times before. I also sent the author Mike Norman an email, he's a friend so I'm sure he'll be on soon too.
I sent an invite to Lauren Willig, and she said she has signed up, though it doesn't show it yet on the site.
