Luann, I think the movie might be pretty good. My 8 year old son wants to see it. He read the book in school and loved it so I'm hoping he'll like the movie as well.
Kathy, School of Fear is pretty cute so far. I'm also looking forward to reading the Mysterious Benedict Society books.
The YA book I'm currently reading is School of Fear 1 by Gitty Daneshvari. I've only read a few pages of The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, and that was some time ago, but this book seems to have the same "feel" to it.
I just finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so I'm about to start HP and the Order of Phoenix. I'm also in the middle of reading The Naked Mole Rat Letters by Mary Amato which is very light, kind of silly reading and If I Stay by Gayle Forman, which is heavier and sad but engrossing.
Kellee,We need more teachers like you! My 8 year old had an awful first grade teacher. All she did was criticize and as a consequence he ended up hating reading. Despite the fact that my husband and I are voracious readers and did all the "right" things to get our son to love reading (e.g reading to him every night, building him a big personal library with books he picked out, taking him to the public library at least once a week, etc...) he hated it. He's now in 3rd grade and he can't get enough reading time, thanks to having a wonderful 2nd grade teacher and another terrific teacher this year. While we were walking to school this morning he was reading a book and he told me he couldn't wait until reading time during class so he could finish it. What a difference from first grade. Teachers make a huge difference!
You're probably right, Linda Grace! I didn't see anyone leave either and I didn't hear anyone crying. There were quite a few very young kids there, too.
Linda Grace, I didn't see what was so scary either, but you should see what a lot of people on the Facebook Where the Wild Things Are fan page have been saying. Quite a few of them have said that their kids were crying and wanted to leave or that they saw other people's kids crying and being taken out of the theater. Also it seems as though people either love it or hate it. I couldn't believe the amount of people who said they hated it!
Linda Grace, I saw Where the Wild Things Are this past Saturday and I loved it too! We took our 8 year old and he really liked it. I know some people are saying it's scary for young kids but it must be kids younger than 8 because my son wasn't scared at it. I really liked the kid who played Max and the "wild things" were fantastic looking.
