I have read Tamora Pierce, I love her stuff. I just meant in one of Cashore's novels haha. Sorry for the confusion!
Honestly, I think I'll be disappointed if she turns out to be graced. Unless it wasn't a completely functional grace and she has to figure out how to use it to her advantage (like growing flowers or something).
I read Hush, Hush and didn't think it was amazing but it was definitely entertaining and a page-turner.I also loved Madapple--definitely VERY different.
The reason people are afraid of Gracelings is because you could never be sure what their Grace was. Like in Po's case, he deceived everyone about his true Grace because it would have put him in danger. And the mind-readers could be very dangerous as well. The fact that they had to be given up to their king was a fear for their families--there was the fear that a child would turn out to be a Graceling and that they'd be taken.I think the reason Leck was the way he was is because he had such a large power to control. He also might have just been a psychopath, which paired with his Grace is an unfortunate combination.
Finished Fire today, and I am happy to say I liked it a lot, and I think I appreciate Graceling more now that I've read its companion.
Kellee I know what you mean... he looks way too old. But that said I'm very pleased with the choices for the gods and goddesses.
Bhumi wrote: "Jennifer, you're so lucky! I'm still reading Blue Bloods right now, which is not bad."I actually really like that series, which surprised me. Minus the shallowness of the richer characters, I think the storyline is pretty rich with history and religious references--I am looking forward to reading the third and fourth books.
I'm jumping in here and I haven't read the whole thread so forgive me... but I recently realized that most of my studies of YA lit has to do with horror. I hadn't put that label on it until I found that section in my library and realized those were all the books I was interested in. I have done studies on vampires and witchcraft in teen lit, and I'd like to start on werewolves. I really want to read Shiver, though I haven't got around to it quite yet. Right now I'm in the middle of Melissa de la Cruz's Blue Bloods series, which actually has a very rich story, something that originally surprised me.
I really love this series. Plenty of adventure, I love how the myths and gods/goddesses/mythical creatures are worked into modern times, and Percy's sarcasm and tone are hilarious. I am looking forward to Riordan's next series, to follow this one.
I was let down by this book. I had heard amazing things about it and I think I psyched myself up for it too much and was disappointed. It was still good, but I didn't think it was as amazing as everyone had been saying.
Misty, that's true. I wouldn't quite go so far as to call Aslaug agnostic or atheist though... it's all very vague. Maybe by the end, but there are also a lot of alternative religious beliefs in there.
I think they'll be in there, I can't imagine Cashore deciding that they are completely out of the picture, especially considering how integral they were in Bitterblue's life. According to Amazon, the title is actually Bitterblue.
No, I totally get what you're saying. I think I understand more clearly now.Does anyone know anything about the SEquel (not the prequel Fire) to come out? Maybe there will be more development in their relationship when that comes out.
I am listening to Savvy right now on CD and I'm loving it... I'm looking forward to how her character grows and matures! What about Elena from The Vampire Diaries? And not the TV series. I thought she was a nice comparison to Bella, since they're both main female characters in vampire novels.
