Sara you are so funny!!!
Fiona, now that you formed this group maybe you will read more YA... or not! Whatever!!!
New rant: Because of this darn group I keep going and adding more YA books to my reading list... or worse, actually buying them. I must not spend any more money!
I would have to say that Jessica is the prcursor Reed Brennan and the Lila Fowler is the precursor Noelle Lange... (from Private). Reed transfers to snotty private school from some nowhere town. She is a scholarship. Lots of mystery and intrigue and scandal in this series. She has had one dead boyfriend, backstabbing friends, and lots of problems. It is my not so secret guilty pleasure...
Isn't that what the challenge is all about... challenging ourselves? And I happen to use it to read more... and branch out a bit more. Ahh, the sweet sight of seeing your points get higher and higher and higher (I just wanted to get into the triple digits and now that I am at 140, I pushed my goal to 150 before school ends end of next week and over 200 by the end. Maybe if I am lucky, I will get to push my goal back to a higher number!!!)
I read Private... but it is kind of like Gossip Girl (except set in a boarding school) and you're right, Alexis, Jessica and Elizabeth would have no clue what to do there. Hmm, I never though about that, but you're right, there were tons on SVH and Nancy Drew but even Gossip Girl and The Clique and Private have hit a max of less than 20. Private is coming out with book 11 and has the spin off series Privelege... and Gossip Girl has its spin off series (blanking on the name) and the tv show...

I know, right? The other thing I find interesting about this whole debate is that if we read YA because it is "easy" then why aren't the ones who are leading right now the ones who read YA? I mean, i am at 140, but then you have people like Kristen who only has two tasks left? I did end up posting part of my opinon and I hope it didn't come across as bitchy... but COME ON.
Camerandi wrote: "I agree. The first thing I look at when I get on line is what has been happening with this group. This is my favorite group, except for a couple I moderate."
I am with you. It used to be that TNBBC was the first thing, but now it is this! I used to think that I was alone in my YA addiction, but I am not!
Okay so I have a really pathetic confession... my whole life, I have been told I don't have an imagination. Even when I was a little kid, I couldn't stand Disney movies (I couldn't handle the fact that animals talked in them... animals don't talk).
But i do love Mary Poppins... even if it is totally unbelievable. Not a big fan of the HP movies, but that is because I love the books too much.
Okay, rant... I was over at TNBBC and just read the another challenge thread... I felt a little bit attacked, and I wasn't a main participant until I just posted a comment at the end. I don't understand why people have to attack other people who like YA. Why should it be not allowed in a challenge. We say that we don't agree with book banning, but when you say you're not allowed to read a certain book for a GROUP challenge, you are essentally banning a whole set of books. God, reading that thread was soooo annoying. I really should have stopped reading it after the first several comments, but I couldn't.

Ahh, see there is the difference... I attend a small Christian school. When you do something like that, it isn't like you don't get invited to the frat party (don't have the greek system here) but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows that you're a "tattler" and no one will want to work with you on anything anymore. In a school where there are only about 2000 people, and my major is only 40 people, you can't afford to austricize yourself like that. The few extra points isn't worth the risk of what you stand to lose because you will definitely be seeing them in another class or two, and if not them, then one of their buddies.
YAY, I just looked on my bookshelf and descovered (much to my delight) that I have this book. I might need to read it soon!
What??? She is my favorite. Why are they retiring her? Are they retiring all of them?
All of my sisters and I had them. I had Samantha, my sister Kirstin and Kirsten; my sister Jo had Felicity; and my sister Alex had Kit... great times!
I remember being in High School and being embaressed to walk into the YA section at B&N or Borders... even at the start of college, but now I just admit that it is my favorite!
I liked her when I was younger... not so much now that I am older. I liked this series (and the first movie) but not the other movies. Umm, did she write A Bride for Donnigan? That was one of my favorites!

You will have to let us know what you think of this when you finish it! I love it!!!
My younger sister read the entire LOTR trilogy when she was nine (in the third grade) she has re-read them about five times now, and she is 15.
Is it fine if I don't publish my list? I like to make spur of the moment decisions and figure out how to fit them in so I would probably be changing my list every other day if I posted a list...
It has been eight years since I read this book... maybe I should try re-reading it and see if I still feel as much animosity towards it.
Maybe I will go back and re-read the series. I was reading it as it came out and it is always hard to continue a series that way... sometimes you just get tired of waiting around for the next book...
