I don't think I'm going to have time to read this this month, but it's been on my list for awhile. I'll have to get around to it someday.
I haven't read either, and want to read both (as well as Ice, which is also the same tale, I believe), so it doesn't offend me a bit, Arya.
Come, JG -- join us...
(ie, you can enter until midnight tomorrow. There's also a book of choice that ends tonight!)
That's such a great series. I got to hang out with Maria for the weekend a few weeks ago. It was really nice picking her brain about the books and the characters (we mostly talked about the characters from the Glass series, though Valek certainly made an appearance or two...;p). You might as well ask for Fire Study, too, because you're going to fly through MS and want to keep on going...Did you end up entering to win the signed copy of Sea Glass? I can't recall.
Looking for Alaska was the first book by Green that I've read. I intend to read more, but since I owned that one and had heard great thigns, I figured I'd start there. My friend Jenn said she liked Abundance more, too.
Hey. Just wanted to let you know that there are only a few days left in the contest to win a book of your choice (^), and also, I apparently forgot to tell you about my other contest going on, which also ends in a couple days. It's to win a SIGNED copy of Sea Glass by Maria V. Snyder. Details and whatnot are here.
I feel ya, Angela. I think I need to pay a few visits to some authors (Suzanne Collins, Patrick Ness and Patrick Rothfuss [The Name of the Wind:] topping the list).
Here's how I looked at it: Aaron was a figure of awe for Todd, so there is that element, as Gypsy said. And when it comes to the croc bite, I explained it away two ways: 1, crocs don't chew, they clamp on and hold, so it wouldn't really be a mauling. I know that his nose was ripped off, and yes, there probably was a lot of blood lost, but not necessarily a fatal amount. Todd was excited, it happened fast, and since everything is through Todd's perspective, he could have over-estimated the damage and we have no way of knowing. 2, as for still powering through that and pursuing Todd, I chalked that up to zealotry and adrenaline. People are capable of some pretty amazing things, and Aaron is relentless. So while I did find it slightly on the unbelievable side, it wasn't so much so that it bothered me or I felt the need to discount it.
There are reasons for everything you mentioned if you stick with it. There definitely is a reason the mayor finds Todd significant, to the point of obsession. Just saying.
READ IT!!!!! It is a little hard for some people to get into I think, because it is very different. But it is one of the most unique books I've read in awhile, and Todd is such a great character in a book of great characters. There are a lot of issues raised (ie food for thought), and it's one of those books that gets in your head and takes over a bit. I think it really does become incredibly fast paced and edge-of-your-seat reading, and I LOOOOOOVED it. Easy 5 stars for me (and I can be pretty nit-picky).Adequate pep? I can do more...
