You might find Mischling, Second Degree My Childhood in Nazi Germany, the memoir of a girl who was technically a Jew under the Nazi law, interesting. She hid in plain sight in the Hitler Youth.
I'm not sure it's YA, but of the books on your to-read list, Jennifer, the one I've enjoyed most was The Count of Monte Cristo.
September Winners: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

I've read The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More; not aware of any other (not that I'm an expert on Dahl!).
Esther wrote: "When the Boo Radleys had that song 'Wake Up!' I was surprised to find I was the only person I knew, in real life, who knew who Boo Radley was. Le sigh!"Good lord.
Brave New World and 1984 are both distopias. From what I've heard about the Uglies series, those books are also distopias?
Yes, I have that set, too. (Except for The First Four Years - no idea what happened to that one.) Still have the box, as well!My parents gave it to me as a "get better soon" gift after I nearly cut the artery on my right wrist when I was seven. (Dropped a glass of Coke on some steps, and got very lucky by a fraction of an inch. Though my wrist and hand were bandaged up for about a month.)
