1791 Welcome! I don't post much, but read a lot of the comments and have written just a couple of stories over on fanfiction.net - if you need more stories to read, that is where to go. There is something about the Stephanie Plum series that bring out the fanatic in some of us - the shortened version of fan. But, I have to admit that I have been a fanatic for several years now - I have the stories memorized. Are you a Babe or a Cupcake? That can be a divisive issue, just to warn you. There are some who absolutely hate Joe. I am a Babe - I think she belongs with Ranger - but, I don't think Joe is evil, just a little selfish at times, but both guys are, really. Then again, we all are in real life as well. What would you like to discuss?

1791 Hailey,

One word to explain why Steph isn't working for Ranger in 12 - Joe. He may have accepted the situation in 11, but for some reason, he'd rather she work at Vinnie's, which he hates, than for her to work for Ranger, where she's safe.

The first book I read in the series was 13, so I liked it enough to read the books in order afterwards, but I agree - the series should have ended with 12. The rest just don't make any sense after 12.
Diesel Love (17 new)

1791 I love Diesel, too! He would add a whole other dimension to Steph's habits of getting into trouble if she was with him. But, as written at the end of "Spooky", he really takes his job seriously, even more so than Ranger does, believe it or not. Ranger is really the one that kept Steph safe during the book, not Diesel. Ranger will stop what he is doing to rescue and help her. I liked "Wicked Appetite", although, to be honest, I really don't care that much for Carl the monkey.

Steph didn't take on the mob. She was trying to pin something on Alpha so that he wouldn't kill her. Why her cop boyfriend wouldn't do anything to help her when her life was threatened is a big mystery to me. Of course, he just stood there and ate some of the pie that was on Steph's face when her life was threatened by someone else. Joe used to try to protect her - some of their biggest arguments was when he wanted her to stay at his house instead of finding her most recent stalker (esp. in 11). Joe knows that Ranger would protect Steph better - he didn't even want Ranger to know that Alpha had threatened Steph because he knew how Ranger would solve the problem.

I may be going in circles, but this book really makes me wonder why Steph would want to be with Morelli. She can't depend on him for much of anything, except to look down her shirt in public. Definitely not with her life.

1791 I'm kind of obsessed about this series and have read it about 5 times through - all of the books. So, I have it pretty memorized. I have to go back once in awhile and check facts. I'm also reading the series out loud to my husband right now as well as just reading, and we're on book 13. We did the in-between books by audio cd's first, because they are "cleaner" and I didn't have to edit for my teenagers to listen to them.

1791 Sorry, Magpie - read books 7 & 8 again. Valerie and her daughters are first introduced in book 7. "Sugarplums" was the 3rd book they were mentioned. Yes, they had more story line in "Sugarplums", but they were not just mentioned in the other books, but had storylines, esp. Valerie.

1791 Valerie & the girls are first introduced in book 7, when they come back to Trenton. Valerie (and Steph!) meet Kloughn in book 8. In "Sugar Plums", Valerie finds out that she's pregnant by Kloughn.

It's a cute story and is touched on in book 9 in the beginning by Grandma Mazur when she wants Steph to open the bathroom door.

1791 I wasn't a member of Goodreads at the time, but I was an ambassador! I passed out all of the samplers, but got some of them back. I was disappointed at the character case files. This was a perfect opportunity to give more information about the characters, and it was less than what we could figure out from a book. Plus, I was hoping for more series characters. I wanted something on her parents, her other friends, maybe the Merry Men. So, it was nice to get the preview of the book, but otherwise, it was disappointing.

1791 I love the Diesel books! I highly recommend them. Not everyone likes them, but some of the events of the series happens in the In-Between series - esp. Plum Spooky - which are mentioned in the numbered series. A part of me wishes she would consider Diesel as her romantic partner, but I think they do well as friends.
