17569 I thought the music was fantastic, but that it was overly long (damn near 3 hours, right?) and that the cast wasn't very strong. I just can't watch Gerard Butler trying to be romantic after seeing him in RocknRolla and 300 (and soon, Gamer)... The art direction was good and very detailed. It was okay, but I'm not the biggest fan of this movie.

17569 Favorite. Musical. Evah. And that's coming from someone who watches a lot of musicals. I saw it twice in theaters, and will forever regret not being able to see it when it came to San Francisco...

17569 Well, after reading all that BS, I'm glad I passed on that movie...

17569 November 17th is still so far away.... I would've figured it would take less time. Then again, they're trying to shoot for Christmas for the $$$.

17569 I saw this trailer a couple weeks back and I am so excited for this. Post-apocalyptic ftw!

17569 Wow. This film is seriously made by flash? In the first few scenes, its pretty obvious, but the farther along the movie got, the harder it was to believe. It simply looks to amazing and fluid to be flash. Probably one of the best animated movies I've ever seen (and I've seen quite a few). The fact that this is an engrossing and realistic war story, as well as the trippiest thing I've seen since Paprika is just a +1. My only actual complaint is a small one: its just a tad bit slow.

17569 Saw a preview for this yesterday and it looks fantastic. Now I have 2 movies in August to look forward to!

17569 I love Will Smith, but this movie still sucks. Tried to steal Nemo's fire and got burned in the process. One more reason Dreamworks will always be 2nd best.

Oh, and Will Smith as a voice actor in general sucks. What's the point of casting him when you can't see the bod?

17569 Wasn't sure whether or not to put this in sci-fi or action, or even if someone had already made this topic. Anyway, I believe the DVD comes out tomorrow. I haven't heard anything about them putting the deleted scenes (and I'm guessing there's a lot) on it. Hopefully Snyder doesn't pull a Peter Jackson and release it a year later for $40, because I don't wanna pay twice for this movie.

Personally, I liked it when I saw it in the theaters. It's not the best adaptation, and certainly not the most faithful, but it did its job fine. Went to go see it with my boyfriend (who refuses to read the far superior graphic novel), without remembering how much nudity was in the book. As soon as Dr. Manhattan walked out in his birthday suit, my bf just looked at me like "WTF?" All I could do back was shrug. This needed more Rorschach, in my opinion.

17569 I see people mentioning Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers, but no Perfect Blue or Millennium Actress (the latter is probably his finest movie ever)? Satoshi Kon is amazing anyway. All of his stuff is gold. By the way, he's working on a new movie, but nothing's been released yet. If you like his stuff, I'd suggest checking out his short series Paranoia Agent.

How about Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, or Appleseed (04)? All of them are pretty good, but I think the Appleseed series translates best to American audiences. Other good anime movies are Origin: Spirits of the Past, Grave of the Fireflies (although I believe that counts as Ghibli; extremely depressing), Steamboy, Akira, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. None of those are particularly for children, although Origin is passable, there's no gore or anything.

No love for the Iron Giant, Titan A.E., or An American Tale?

17569 I can't remember if it was an Academy Award or an Oscar this won for its special effects, but they're pretty much the best thing about this movie.

Ditto. I just bought the special edition of this a couple weeks ago. The movie holds up well over time, even if it is extremely silly. All I have to say about it is.... Neil Patrick Harris.
Riddick (8 new)
Jul 18, 2009 06:47PM

17569 So, I just got finished watching the Riddick series, after avoiding it for years simply because I hate Vin Diesel. I must say, I loved Pitch Black. I thought the monsters looked a little silly, but hey, that's the budget they had. Dark Fury wasn't too bad, even if I'm not the biggest fan of Peter Chung's style (can't really call it anime, but whatever). Now, the actual Chronicles of Riddick was pretty silly. So, now he's a member of this ridiculous race that's part of some prophecy to save the universe? Okaaaay... That last scene was very reminiscent of the end of God of War (he needs to play Kratos so very bad), but it was also extremely predictable. All and all, this wasn't nearly as terrible a trip as I thought it be, as long as you're not expecting Oscar material.

17569 ^lol, just wait for the Thundercats movie.... it's gonna happen.

I've never watched GI Joe, but I'm interested in the movie. Then again, I'm suckered into a bunch of popcorn summer flicks.

17569 For some reason, when I was watching the trailer for this, it gave me the same nostalgic feeling that I get whenever I see a clip from the Neverending Story (which I was practically obsessed with as a kid). Excited to see how it turns out.

FINALLY! I am soooooo sick of every animation company going over to CGI. It's about time Disney realized that almost all their CGI movies really suck (I don't count Pixar, cause they're not Disney). Very much excited, even if I think they're long overdue for a black princess.

17569 Saw another extended preview at HP last night. Has anyone else seen the original short film that led to this movie? If not, you can watch it here:

lol, I love how the comments for the vid credit Tim Burton when he pretty much had nothing to do with the original work. If there's one thing I absolutely love, its short animation.
Ponyo (7 new)
Jul 15, 2009 05:48PM

17569 When I went to go see HP last night, I actually saw a poster for Ponyo. Does this mean its getting the proper theater treatment? Does this mean I might actually get to see an anime on the big screen? I'm excited!
Jul 15, 2009 11:08AM

17569 I thought it was alright, one of the better HP films to be sure. Too many cuts, too much missing, but I've been saying that since the first movie (wtf, no Peeves?). The ending felt rushed, but I was too tired to keep my eyes open for much longer anyway. Gambon did a good job this time and wasn't full of rage. I'm very surprised this got a PG rating though, there are so many scenes that would have scared the bejesus outta me as a child. Also, no funeral for DD? He's not gonna bury himself!

17569 Woot woot, going to see the midnight showing tonight!
