Every time? I just met Lori at GR a week ago. You've never piped in? Rob, you're really rude sometimes and treat members here very disrespectfully. That's really not how a moderator should behave.
Urkel rhymes with purple.Had another thought on the color purple in the story. If you look at a field of same-colored flowers, they all appear to look exactly the same. But if you walk by one and stop to notice, you'll see they're unique and beautiful in their own ways.
When we think of groups of different races or sexes or whatever, we clump them together as one and it becomes a prejudice when we have negative connotations with a certain group. "All black people are such and such." "All white people are such and such." "All women..." But The Color Purple showed many different personalities and desires in the characters. Look at how different Shug, Celie, and Sophia are.
I'm wondering why white people were portrayed so negatively. There's not one redeeming white character I can even think of. Just that crazy, selfish white woman.
By "did you?" I meant I couldn't even remember it you called Oprah a b*tch. I know you wouldn't call a member here that word. Yeah, I don't really care for Oprah like I did back in the '80s. She's a little full of herself.Rob, why do you think we're sisters? Are you married to all the women here make small talk with you in threads? I don't get it.
I remember Shug walking through a field of purple flowers and telling Celie that God is pissed when people walk on by them and don't notice how gorgeous they are. I think that's a beautiful sentiment. Maybe the flowers symbolize how we walk right by family members and even acquaintances without knowing how beautiful and wonderful they are? You don't know what you've got till it's gone? I don't really know. Any other opinions?
I never know if people are just goofing or really talk a certain way. I try to err on the side of caution, but sometimes it's hard to do. When someone introduces themselves by admitting they blew bloody snot on people...I just don't know what to think about them.
For some reason my husband detests Meryl Streep. It's not like she's annoying like Jack Black, so I just don't get it. He calls her Meryl Creep and won't watch her movies. Although he did sit and watch and ENJOY The Devil Wears Prada, but he conveniently forgets this after the movie.I'm sure Meryl lights up a room just like she lights up any movie she's in, regardless of the quality. So I can understand how this movie could be half good/half not so good. Although Amy Adams is a good actress who is probably the next Meryl Streep.
I'm lucky if I get to the theater to see Harry Potter, so I won't be seeing this one. I'll watch it on DVD.
I do know what you mean, Lori. I would sit and watch a movie 20 times if my darling son asked me to. If I can feel enthusiasm when he comes to find me and tell me he unlocked another car in his Hot Wheels PC game and for me to come watch him race it, I can sit and watch a good movie. My mind might wander, but my body is there.
It's not like I sit and watch my son's favorite movie every time he watches it. It gives me time to get some things done.
It might be fine for people who haven't read the book, but it's one of my favorite books and it just didn't translate as well on screen.I sat through it too or I wouldn't be badmouthing it the way I do.
I think cussing is low brow no matter which class does it. I cuss too and when I do I think it's low class and not very imaginative.
Casper just looks like an awful movie all around.I don't consider "piss" to be a bad word.
This whole thing is a little humorous because my father cusses like a sailor around my son. It's just natural instinct for him to cuss and it pisses me off. Yet my son has only repeated a few bad words when he was younger. I hate swearing in movies and TV but it's something I feel like I can control.
Most parents call attention to swearing because they don't want their kids to unknowingly swear in public. What our kids do in public reflects on the home life, and we don't want people to think we're raising classless scum.
