17569 Why is that surprising? We always want what we can't have.

17569 I'm going to refrain from saying something along the lines of "Oh no! Are we running out of places to invade here already??"

O_o

Oops.

=\

17569 That would be a feat, but I'd say it would be easier than trying to memorize something that I loved less.

17569 I don't even know how many times I've read The Stand. For a while, before joining GR, I was reading it every year. (Does that make me strange?) =\

17569 So, I read a synopsis of this one on IMDB the other day, and I have to say... Eh. Probably good effects, but the story isn't really grabbing me.

Although, I saw some of the effects in clips that were shown behind Leona Lewis as she was performing the theme song (another "Eh" there too, although at least I listened to her song - I muted J.Lo's *gag*) on SYTYCD finale and it didn't look too impressive either.

*shrug* I'll wait for the DVD.

17569 Hmm... Lori, you know I kind of understand where you're coming from, you are loyal to the people you love. My brother went to Afghanistan to fight twice, and volunteered both times. And while he and I are diametrically opposed when it comes to political issues, I supported his decision to do what he thought was right. Luckily, he came home relatively unscathed, and won't be going back, as he is now on military disability for a heart problem. My dad was also military for 20+ years, so I know where you're coming from when you say that you support them.

However, offering support and love and praying for their safe return home isn't the same as supporting the reason for them being there in the first place. That is a very big distinction that I think a lot of people miss. I think the reason that they are being put in danger is a VERY important one. It's hard to feel that you are going against the troops by not supporting the war that they are fighting, but I'm not sure even the troops themselves know the real reason they are fighting.

I'm no expert either, but I have seen many, many indie documentaries with veteran interviews that break my heart. When I hear veterans of our most recent wars saying things like "We were sent to die," I get pissed. And call me unamerican, or unpatriotic, or a communist or hippy or whatever, but I will still say that we support our troops most by bringing them home and ending our pointless and unwinnable wars.

And that's my two cents.

17569 Tom, that is a GREAT documentary. Good rec. :)

17569 I know that this is going to be an unpopular statement, but the only people I see trying to take away my freedoms are right here at home, passing laws I don't vote for. Real ID, looking into my private life with the so-called "Patriot" Act, RFID chips in my Passport and driver's license...

Somehow I doubt that anyone in Afghanistan or Iraq would want to know that I went to the liquor store and bought a bottle of vodka tonight, but the state of Pennsylvania sure wants to know, as they require liquor stores to scan all IDs -- not just to check them, but SCAN THEM INTO THE COMPUTER.

*shrug* I think that the Dixie Chicks know where the real fight for our freedom is. I commend them for speaking out.

17569 Haha... I remember this movie... This was the first time that I'd ever considered that there would be a jail for juvenile GIRLS. It scared me! LOL

17569 I saw a lot of reviews for this movie while I was on vacation, and I was shocked by how deranged Tobey Maguire looked, even in the one little scene where he's laying in bed asking for his wife. CREEPY.

I do want to see this movie. I have a feeling that it will be VERY intense.

Really? I've seen it many times and had never known that. I just assumed that so much was cut for time. There's only so much you can keep in for movies, even mini-series.

17569 Jason, you definitely need to read the book. If you liked the mini-series, you will LOVE the book.

It's long, but well worth the effort. :D

17569 You would NOT like my boyfriend, Stacie! LOL

I remember when Thomas and I saw the remake of Dawn of the Dead in the theater... Afterward, he thought it would be funny to do zombie impersonations... until he tried it to wake me up one morning and got an elbow to the sternum. O_o

I thought it was funny once he started breathing again to tell me what happened. LOL

17569 I just saw this trailer, and it looks hilarious! I love the entire cast, so I'm crossing my fingers that it is as good as it looks!

17569 Wow... I missed an entire word there... that SHOULD say "when Granny turned super-evil WITH sharp teeth and started running across the ceiling of a diner."

LOL
