Yeah, especially with the holidays coming up - sometimes the group will just naturally be slower :)
I thought the feature of the member choice was an awesome addition. So much so that I was contemplating on adding it to my group. However I think 2 reads is more then enough! lol
Yeah, I mentioned that if you were not planning on participating that month (and it happens) then to please not vote. =)
And you are right about the lurkers :) I wouldnt even bother with it if I didnt spend my own money to fund the contests :PEven so we havent had an issue yet with moochers so I may not bother with it too much :)
I would keep both themed and non themed. Just so you have something to mix up a bit and challenge people to find :)
Yeah we still do run contests :) So I definately look at who is posting and who is joining just to mooch :)Its not a practice for everyone, that's for sure. I was in Novel Ladies but they.. well, I don't wish to speak ill of anyone there, as there are a LOT of great ladies in that group but I didn't want to be in a group that felt more like my mother was watching and scolding me lol.
That is the beauty of so many groups, it all depends on comfort level and how much someone can contribute that will depend on where they wish to join.
All you can do is make the best of the group you have and remember that you cant always make everyone happy.. all you can do is try.
Oh regarding the topic at hand, we also struggle with the same thing. The series read was fun for a couple months and then it died down.. as you said. So we dropped it.We went back to just 2 books a month (maybe you have too many?)
Also, one of our reads people can suggest anything. From stand alones, to series, in the middle or beginning. So it doesnt matter as long as people can get the book.
Granted if its in the middle of a series and most people havent read the prior books well it might not get many votes :P
No matter how you do it you still have members voting. So its still up in the air and its something both of us are struggling with hehe.
Keep in mind, its the holidays so people get busy and dont get as much time to read.
We have relaxed a bit on that rule, since I separated the bookmark exchange from it and made it its own group. However, every few months I check the list and see who has been in the group for a while but never posts. While the rules have been laxed quite a LOT due to the exchange being apart now, we still do wish to have an active group and people who never post well.. I don't see why they joined to be honest lol
My moods effect my reading so bad that its annoying :(I am sure that's what it was.. its a shame too because I would love to discuss the book with you guys but didn't get that far into it lol
I tried to read this but I found it lacking.. I guess its just not my thing :(I plan to try and pick it up at a later time though, see if I change my mind hehe
