16821 Happy Birthday weekend, Sally!

I wish we got to see more of you, but I hope you're absent because you're enjoying children and grandchildren.

16821 Jan O'Cat's method is close to what I use in my head.

Someday everyone will use O'Catmath.

16821 Happy Birthday, Leslie!
I hope you celebrated your day by reading three or four books--that's what you do every day, isn't it?

I'm sure it was a great day!

Yeah, I'm newly 56. But if you divide that by 9 cat lives and then add 17, I'm a kittenish 23 and 2/9 years old.

Jan O'Cat, good at math

16821 Thanks so much to all of you for remembering my birthday. I tuned in at exactly the right time when there were 17 greetings awaiting me. And I got the fun of realizing that Carol had gotten up really early in the morning just to start my thread. <smooch!>

As Donna in Md alludes, my school year is so busy that there are many days when I don't even turn on the computer. It's lovely to find myself still remembered by all of my long-time M/T friends.

I had a nice day filled with large and small surprises. Someone at school had my birthday listed in the newspaper of the smalltown where I teach and then left the paper on my desk for me to find first thing this morning. We had the usual incredibly moving Veterans' Day program at our school. Lots of vets, young and old, always show up to be thanked and seranaded by the kids.

Cheryl, I LOVE the cat! Many furry head bumpings and ankle twinings to you!

And thanks again to all of my best reading friends. It was great to arrive home late and tired but full of anticipation for My Own Thread.

Much love,
Jan O'Cat

16821 A very belated happy birthday from me, Shomeret! As Ann has said recently, we're all so proud of your decision to go back to school especially since it's LIBRARY school. Best wishes to you and keep studying!

16821 Carol said: "If you haven't read about the Molasses spill, you should go to Wikipedia and read up on it immediately."

Carol, I'd never heard of this before reading TGD, nor had I ever considered the possibility of such a thing as a giant container of molasses spilling. I couldn't imagine the destruction. With everything that happened in The Given Day, the molasses spill remains my most vivid mental image.

16821 Susie, how was the new Donna Andrews? I'm at least two books behind in the Meg and Michael series now, maybe three. At least it's nice to have a couple in reserve for when I need a funny pick-me-up.

16821 This is great news! I predict lots of discussion here.

16821 Gail & Ann, I've started reading Homer's Odyssey and I'm loving it!

My neighbor used to have a blind cat--from abuse, not infection--and some of the descriptions of Homer's acute senses remind me so much of that cat. She was so perceptive that there were times I would swear she could see, but like Homer she had no eyes so it was impossible. She was amazing and Homer sounds adorable.

16821 Sakura, yes, I've read The Killing Floor by Lee Child. I found it good but haven't read any more. (and I apologize. My response to Ann has to do with a board in-joke about reading in order, not the quality of Lee Child's work.)

16821 Gail/Ladyvolz wrote: "OMG this book looks so good. I've ordered it for Mom and will read it after she is finished. It's about a young woman who adopted a blind kitten. True story and of course the cat is still alive ..."

Gail, thanks for finding this book. I heard the end of an interview with the author on NPR and was intrigued, but didn't catch author's name or title. I DID remember the important part, that the cat's name was Homer!

Thanks, Shomeret! I knew it was something I should be able to figure out by myself.
