I'm sending my thoughts and prayers your way to give you and your family strength during your BIL's health crisis...
Ann, I now have a better idea of where it's going, but I think I won't say more because it was fun not knowing and I don't want to spoil it for others. I encourage anyone up for an adventure to give it a try.Ann wrote: "Carol:
Very intriguing! I look forward to hearing more about The Angel's Game

This book was recommended the friend who recommended The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's got a curious plot line and I'm not sure where it's going to lead. I would say it's sort of a cross Great Expectations and The Thirteenth Tale How is that for a tease? ...."

Oh boy.... This will be tough. I'm not surprised you got teary.
Sherry wrote: "i'll be interested to hear what you think when you finish. ..."I'll report back (re: The Angel's Game. I'm listening to it so how quickly I move through it is limited by when I can listen. It's just hit a confusing/slow patch but I'm curious as to where it is heading and what kind of book this is (mystery? suspense? drama?) so I'm hooked.
Sherry wrote: "not to put a damper on your reading experience, BUT<g> i THINK the angels game is the sequel to shadow of the wind The Shadow of the Wind. i haven't read it but many of the same characters are in both books.how are you liking it? ..."
that explains the mysterious comment I read in a review somewhere about not knowing whether this was a sequel or a prequel. I'm on p. 130 and enjoying it, so I'm not going to sweat it. Did you read The Shadow of the Wind, Sherry?

edit: here's the author's comment from Amazon: "...Some readers often ask me if The Angel’s Game is a prequel or a sequel. The answer is: none of these things, and all of the above. Essentially The Angel’s Game is a new book, a stand-alone story that you can fully enjoy and understand on its own. But if you have already read The Shadow of the Wind, or you decide to read it afterwards, you’ll find new meanings and connections that I hope will enhance your experience with these characters and their adventures." Spoken like an author determined to encourage both RIO's and UOOOR's!
HB, Leslie! I hope you are spending your special day exactly the way you want to, and ending it by checking in for wishes from your friends in the M/T Reading Friends group.

Especially with having to start..."Yeah, I should have added that it wouldn't be announced until MacWorld, which happens in late spring I think.
Donnajo wrote: "Guess I'll have to wait until they get the Mac version to give it a try. That or stop resisting buying and buy a Kindle. "
There's rumored to be a Mac netbook type thing that combines iPhone, Kindle, laptop. It's called the Tablet. Don't know if I want that kind of combo, though, although I'd buy a Mac type Kindle in a NY minute.

Gail and Ann, I was telling my IT manager about this today (we were talking Black Friday and wish lists) and he said he's getting some indication that Apple might release a similar product in the spring. Now that would be worth waiting for, although I wouldn't get the first release because it's usually highly priced.

DJ, you are brave! (Push A Novel)
I don't think I have the fortitude to read the book or see the movie.
No, not the U2 band member, but a new reader that I just saw advertised somewhere. It combines a reader with a laptop (minimum functioning I guess) and clocks at just under $500. Looks like it will be released in February. What will they think of next? http://www.entourageedge.com/
Yesterday I finished Rough Country by John Sandford (thanks to Melodie for the "add book" tip that makes it so easy to add a link!)I can't begun to tell you how much I enjoyed this continuation of the Virgil Flowers adventures. He is such a bad boy!
The case was interesting, it's location in a retreat frequented by professional women, and the intersection with a local rock band and the lesbian subculture, made for entertaining reading. And there is the requisite humor built into all the Sandford books or at least the Flowers and Davenports. The final couple of paragraphs were a kicker that still have me laughing.
I'm giving this a 5 out of 5. Well, maybe I'll deduct half a star for a resolution that reminded me of the resolution of a recent Sue Grafton novel, but I suppose if one person came up with it two people could.
