16663 Agree with so many recommendations here! Boys of Blur by N.D. Wilson, A Snicker of Magic, Circa Now, 14th Goldfish, The Riverman, and The Night Gardener top my list, but I have a staggering pile of books to read after school ends.

16663 So far, Ivan is my Newbery pick, although I just finished Tracing Stars and Kepler's Dream, which are both great.
