Scar Night by Alan Campbell for my fantasy, and Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds for my scifi. (Might as well keep nominating them - I'm reading them anyway.)
I have read Thirteen and Altered Carbon, both of which immediately shot to the top of my favorite books list. Both very violent, but it did not feel gratuitous. I loved the concepts - transhumanism is one of my favorite scifi tropes. I can't wait to read The Steel Remains.
Swan Song by Robert R. Mcammon was pretty good, so was The Stand by Stephen King. The Road was a poorly-written pointless waste of time. Eternity Road was not so good: the concepts were there, McDevitt just didn't do anything with them.
Revelation Space for Scifi sounds good to me. I've been wanting to read that one for a while. Was Scar Night nominated for fantasy? I'm reading and enjoying that one right now.
Scar Night Currently reading Scar Night. I just finished Iron Sunrise by Charles Stross. It was a bit of a slog, but ultimately quite good.
