what books would you recommend on historiography?
also I enjoyed Tostoy's theory of history he wrote about in WAR AND PEACE -
any other books where the author mixes his/her theory of history within the story?
are there any books about theories of history?
eg do individuals make history or do forces cause events to happen, etc?

still doesn't answer my question of why a country/group/society go to war
Hitler couldn't become a dictator by his actions alone
also the German people had to do something for its war effort to be such a threat plus for such atrocities to be committed without their knowledge/apathy/cooperation

My question is how does any one person get a country to go to/make war, ie, why does the group/society decide and follow through on that decision where the group/country isn't attacked first?
any books on how/why a group/country goes to war when not attacked?
I enjoyed the look at what was going on at the time and how the different individuals' fates came together

looks great
although recent history the book THE HOUR I FIRST BELIEVED by Wally Lamb is 1st rate about The Columbine Massacre in Colorado in late 1990s as well as very insightful about the effects of mass shootings that are way too common now
Thanks Bruce for information
glad I am now at least up to the 18th Century state of knowledge and custom - only 3 more centuries to get caught up with modern times
I like social/cultural history but don't know many books/authors who write their books from this standpoint. The reason I am interested in those 2 areas is that I like to see what affect/change social/cultural trends have on the nature of human behavior and whether human beings are evolving towards a more positive, happy and productive creature on this Earth.
any one have a favorite book/author in this area?
Who/What?
Thanks
