15253 Hi Tracey, yeah but it sure is difficult. My head tells me that time and another dog to love will help.

15253 Mattie, Well you were able to save at least one of the litter - your Dakota. That is nice. Heavens, that must have been some owner. Receiving a a 1 month old puppy is extremely unusual, usually the pups don't leave their mother until 8 weeks. She must be very attached to you. And you have chosen a nice name!

15253 Hi Mattie, December isn't so long ago. You must still be missing her terribly. Were you able to pat her again after the operation or did they not wake her up? The whole thing sounds very difficult to get through. Do you have other dogs? Have/will you get another dog? I recommend the book Merle's Door - but I think the owner/author should have used not let his dog suffer so long at the end. It seemed to me that the dog suffered at the end. I am new here - should I have posted a new discussion? The first post was about a beagle, so am I making an error? Sorry if I am acting incorrectly! I did see that other people who were new introduced themselves so I thought it was OK.

15253 Hi Krista, Sounds like you do understand. In the past when one dog has died I have usually had another to comfort me, but not this time. We bought Skye when we lived in Sweden and then we moved to Belgium, so him and I discovered Brussels together. My husband disappeared to work and it was just Skye and I. So now it feels terribly lonely. I also had to decide to put Skye down. His muscles were disappearing, despite steroide (cortisone) injections. At Christmas he vomited and had trouble breathing. The muscles in the eosophagus were becoming too weak. After changing from Metacam(for his arthritiis)to Cortisone, he got better. However it was only a short reprieve. There is no cure and it would get progressively worse. His suffering would increase significantly. Although he was arthritic, practically blind and didn't hear well, these problems didn't make him suffer. We helped him up and down the stairs. We could see that the throat problems were really terrible for him. So Monday the vet came. It is no fun making such a choice. Your head says what is right, but your heart leads you in a different direction. You have gone through this too, so I am sure you understand. I know I will get over this, but it is hard. I know that getting another dog will help. We will do that. Just like with kids, you can keep loving more and more and more. I loved Skye. I will always love Skye and have wonderful memories of him. I will also love my next curly. Boy, does this sound sappy, but it is true. It is just that NOW every second I am missing him. mMy friends and neighbors stop and remark that he is no longer by my side...... Krista, thanks for listening!

15253 Hi, I am new here and I figured I would tell you a bit. Actually my 13 year old curly coated retriever died this Monday so I am MISERABLE. I miss him so much. I spent all my time with him. I will get another black curly male. I KNOW I will love him too, but right now I miss Skye. Do any of you know curlies? They are really smart and beautiful. I couldn't have anything else after having this breed. IMy family and I have had goldens, samojeds, flats, newfoundlands, ùutts, yorkies, landseers...... Well hi everybody, it is nice to meet you and talk about dogs. Aten't they the best thing going?!
