Down the Rabbit Hole An Echo Falls Mystery
Audrey is trying this one out for a book report on a mystery. I have wanted to read it ever since I saw it on the Teen suggestions. Any cautionary words before I let her loose on it? She is in 4th grade and the protagonist is 13.
How to Drive Your Sister Crazy
I finally found a book that Graham picked up and read cover to cover. Hmmm could this subject be the ticket into getting published?? I'll have to see if there are more like this...any title suggestions??
You might go for a classic title. I enjoyed 'The Virginian'. "It tells the story of the Wyoming ranch foreman known only as the Virgianian, his courtship of school teacher Molly Starkwood, and his encounters with the murdering cattle rustler, Trampas." I also like Toni Hillerman's mysteries but I am not sure if those count as Westerns.
Heck Where the Bad Kids Go
Just found this one on the new books shelf in Children's at SM - it has four stars from Amazon. Looks macob, has literary references, (the second book in the series is called 'Rapacia: the second Circle of Heck') - whats not to like???
Alyson wrote: "You are worried about cheating, Karen is worried about cheating - REMEMBER THERE ARE NO RULES! So we can't cheat. " I am no THAT worried - just felt a little guilty
I added tween and teen reads to my challenge as I am sorta cheating by givng books to my kids and using them as a litmus test. This should make it more challenging.
I occasionally dabble in Historical Fiction - a recent find (recent in turtle time, like two years ago) was Bernard Cornwell. 'Sharpe's Fury' was quiet good. Even better was the Bristish TV series based on the books starring Sean Bean (need I say more!!)Sharpe's Fury Richard Sharpe and the Battle of Barrosa, March 1811
Alyson - I am currently trudging through 'Edgar Sawtelle' and it is in my comfort zone - so I am having difficulty just reading. I like literary fiction but his writing is not exactly light and breezy. For a mother daughter read though you might revisit Jane Austin, the Bronte's, or Rebecca. That way you get the literary in and I bet your daughter will like them too.
Zorgamazoo
Impressive rhyming, macob, and fun. That Weston is able to stay in verse and tell an engaging tale for over 200 pages is awe inspiring. Maybe the next Homer.
Zibby Payne & the Trio Trouble
Zibby Payne & the Party Problem
Zibby Payne & the Drama Trauma
Zibby Payne & the Red Carpet Revolt
Zibby Payne and the Wonderful, Terrible Tomboy Experiment
A tween read for girls. My daughter has read the whole series. This series beautifully addresses the social anxieties of being a young girl while allowing the heroine to boldly assert herself as she figures out her identity.
I am enjoying this book very much. High praises to Dave Barry (who knew he could write childrens literature??). Everything is high adventure and it is all the more fun guessing how the story will go since you already know the end.
