Kelsey - this reminds me of the little girl who was in the library last week and only wanted "pretty books". The folktales adapted and illustrated by Demi are lovely.
I knew when I wrote that (starting earlier) you'd call me on it ;-) I just figured it could be a way to beat the big Sat pm crowds and one or two of us might be okay with being a tad late. But I get yer point.
Sequim = birthday brunch for JD's pop.
Hi guys,We'll be in Sequim on 4/4 but will hopefully meet up w/ you next time.
btw - I personally think pubs and coffee shops are the best venue for book groups (starting a little earlier, like 4:30) with a target time for ending, say 6:00. Then if folks wanna go eat a real dinner, so be it.
sushi = finger foods. I do believe finger foods, appetizers and such were part of the plan. Besides the uh, books. I'll see what I can do to deliver these delectible treats.
:-)
Hey Agatha - we must be on a similar brain wave. I just posted (at work) an article from salon.com that discusses a feminist perspective on the Twilight books. Here it is for others who may be interested:http://www.salon.com/books/review/2008/0...
Got the whole dang family, Democrats and Republicans alike, all glowy on Bourbon Furnaces at yesterday's T-day feast. De-lish with Labrot & Graham Woodford Reserve (a gentleman's burbon as JD calls it). Have a great weekend reading and relaxing! Thanks Agatha & Jackie the librarian for your mad moderation skills...
Bourbon Furnace. Olyreads favorite fall cocktail.6 oz hot apple cider
3 whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon
1 1/2 oz Elijah Craig Bourbon
Combine in stemmed mug and serve immediately.
I just read the latest Babymouse book -"Babymouse: Monster Mash" by Jennifer Holm. No girlie girl princess costume for Baby! :-)
Thanks Manek - I've been wondering what to give my bookish dad for his birthday this weekend, and it sounds like something he'd love. I'll have to be sneaky and see if he's read it...
cheers -

Does the island have wireless? ;-)Okay, how 'bout a blank journal of some sort to whine in, or to note/draw the exotic foliage and wild pigs that are rooting around, or to write messages to stick in a bottle (empty, rum of course).
A girl scout survival manual.
Something wise, like by the Dalai Lama or Thoreau (so I can at least pretend to be reverent when I'm freaking out).
A songbook of ABBA tunes.
I have summer apathy. Or some kind of seasonal ADD. I have nine or ten books sitting here which I can't seem to crack, esp. when the weather is so fine.
BIG HUGS to Agatha. Let us know what we can do and we'll look forward to seeing you when you get back. Thanks Jackie, for trying to get something together.
Hey there! And thanks for the welcome. Kelsey - I am on the children's librarian's goodreads, but just recently joined this one. And I'm so glad I did b/c now I've found some Bloody Mary friends! We definitely need to meet at Voyeur and The Spar soon and do a taste comparison!
I am a fairly recent Oly transplant - my hubby and I moved here about a year ago from Colorado with our 2 cats. So far we are still struggling to adjust to the weather, but we love being by the water, getting to pick blueberries and blackberries in the summer, and the Trader Joe's and Ikea shopping opportunities. I am a Youth Services Librarian at the Lacey Timberland Library and enjoy walking around the St Martin's campus during my lunch breaks (although after the attack last week I have to stick to the main roads which really sucks). I read mostly J and YA stuff, but try to fit in the occasional grown-up book as well.
We're doing a themed book discussion, so they can read and share any book about dating, romance, relationships, etc. I just started a new one by Lisa Schroeder called I Heart You, You Haunt Me (mortal girl is still in love with her dead boyfriend who died in a car accident- I think his ghost is going to show up here momentarily.) It's in verse, and kind of melodramatic and I think the Twighlighters will like it.
Welcome Kari! Not sure if I'll be able to make the May 3 gathering as I'll be in Seattle that day. Save me a bloody mary anyway, just in case I'm back in time! I just got my book and look forward to reading it (soon I plow through some other titles for upcoming teen book discussion).
