Too bad we missed it, but we were sleeping in preparation for All Freakin' Night (which, by the way, I made it all the way through.)
For those who are disturbed at the pornographic direction this discussion is taking - I was referring to pistils and stamens, I don't know what everyone else was thinking.
Well KD, we should find some way to combine monsters, celebretards, and giant genitals. OJ comes to mind, but it'd be very difficult for me to masquerade convincingly as him in Oly without being drawn and quartered by the tolerance-brigade.
As for scary rock bands - forget Alice Cooper, Helloween, and all those Norwegian death-thrash cattle-mutilaters. You guys should be Stryper next year.
Gummis - regular and sour - jellybeans - spice drops - red AND black licorice - horehounds - and last week I ate a scorpion that was imbedded in a sucker.
I can do without chocolate. I don't hate chocolate, but once I eat a smidge my body goes into some kind of glycaemia shutdown and I get lethargic (that, along with having a feeling where I couldn't swallow another single chocolate sprinkle.)
I think we're going to make it. Alas, no gingerbread this time until my own personal economy makes a recovery from our recent trip.
With assorted books others could be convinced to check out a title they wouldn't have thought of. I only catch a handful of the reviews my connections make on Goodreads - plus there's all the books where there's no review, just a star rating.
I'm with Jackie - I have nothing against Suite Francaise, I just don't know when I'll ever get around to looking at it.
I've already read them all except for Finnegans Wake, which I've studied various parts of but never the whole thing all at once, and the Sylvie and Bruno portions of the Lewis Carroll.I think, however, that I'll trade in Sister Carrie for something from Faulkner - maybe Sound and the Fury.
A new All-Inclusive forum for Olympians (and those interested in Oly) has been created.
Library Events, Book Sales, Book Signings, Book burnings, literary reviews, and anything else book related will all be welcome there. (along with an infinite amount of other topics)

Tristram Shandy
Ulysses
Finnegan's Wake (might actually finish it)
Leaves of Grass
The Complete Works of Lewis Carroll (hey, it's in one hard-bound volume)
The Complete Verse of Rudyard Kipling
This is My best (a collection compiled in the '40s from the greatest writers of the time, choosing their entries)
Sister Carrie
Henry V
The Spell of the Yukon [Robert Service]
I just sent them an Olympia request too. I liked going with my roommate when I lived in Seattle but at the time was just a step above homeless so couldn't afford anything - now I'd welcome being able to buy a lot of what was available.
I'd say listening to an audio should count provided it's unabridged (though really, since we're such an informal group, that shouldn't be set in stone) and that it was actually listened to instead of being background noise.
It's hardly different than if a couple had one read it out loud to the other.
If worse comes to worst we can be like George Costanza and watch the movie the night before the next meeting.
If we read Beatiful Boy we should also read his son Nic's companion book Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines - that way the point of view from both sides is covered.
That's the only title I recall. Although, really, I'd be equally happy if next time was like last time where we spent maybe 3 minutes talking about the book and the rest of the evening just discussing books in general (and anything else for that matter...it's not often we get out of the apartment for a reason other than Happy Hour.)
T.R. Wexler's a great character. I liked how everyone was partnered perfectly - but I'm jumping ahead, we'll cover that tomorrow I'm sure.
It says it's to be a potluck - what all should be brought?
