Wow, am I the silent 5th? I had no idea! I haven't responded in quite some time since all of my weekends are booked for both August and September. I assumed if it was an over-nighter, it would be on a weekend. But please don't hold up planning for me! I have to say that I'm impressed you ladies go to such length to include everyone! I gave up on that a long time ago - I have no patience for throwing out endless dates to groups of people (I'm mostly thinking of the ladies weekends I try to plan, but have also done lots of event planning for work) and never finding something that will work for everyone.
Please don't hold up the planning for me, but I'll try to make whatever date you choose!
Nice, I'm sure you all know about this, but a friend was just telling me about a book she read that fits into this topic : Everything I Need to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume. I didn't read too far into the website, maybe that's what this idea is based off of???
Aww, I just remembered book group...15 hours too late! Dang it! And I was bored last night looking for stuff to do too. I can't believe that I forgot after remembering all week long. Curses! One of these days I'll catch up with you all.
30th might work for me - I know I'll be in Portland on the 31st and am not sure yet whether I'll head down a day early to get extra time hanging out with the family.
I know there was some talk about what days worked best for everyone, but I can't seem to find where that thread is located - I just wanted to say that weekday evenings tend to work better for me than weekends, but that's just my two cents. Thanks for putting this all together!
I'll be gone May 23rd to Sasquatch, but all of May and most of June is already filling up on the weekends. Choose a date that will work for the majority and I hope I can make it too! One of these days I'll meet you all!
Wow, I've never seen this thread before, but it's right up my alley! Particularly since I'm in the midst of dieting and denying myself all candy goods - I think I should torture myself a little with a few comments about yummy and icky candy. Yum! Cinnamon bears. Cinnamon saltwater taffy. Heath Bars. Plain ol' chocolate - Hershey's or good ol' dark chocolate of any variety. Carmel.
Ick! Black licorice. Sen-Sens. Green, yellow and orange Skittles. Those orbs of hard candy - not so much because of the flavor, but more because I distinctly remember several times as a kid choking on them as they jammed themselves into my windpipe. (You'd think that'd stop me? No.)
Random Comments: What about Magic Shell? There's something so great about that stuff! And yet, it totally is also a scary, plastic-tasting product. But it's got so much nostalgia that I still love it.
I made some candied orange peels recently that were super yummy. What a great and simple thing to do with peels! They were quite tasty.
I agree with you - I rarely find myself laughing out loud at books and wonder whether its just me or if humor tends to get lost in literary translation. I get the cynical humor in books, but rarely do I feel like laughing out-loud over something I've read. However, I recently read Armistead Maupin's "Maybe the Moon" and I laughed out-loud several times. It was really funny, but be warned that it's funny in a raunchy way. As I was reading the book, I kept wondering whether it was truly the book that was funny or if I am going soft (humor-wise) in my older age. LOL I think and hope that it was the book.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make it either since Chehalis seems to be cut off from the rest of the world. I hope to be doing some volunteer work to get some people's homes unburied down here too. I would like to catch up with you all soon though! Sorry to have to ditch out this time around, but mother nature is beyond my control!
Woops, that was my post above! I just accidentally signed in with my husband's account. Oh geez, I hope this doesn't indicate how the rest of the day will go. LOL!
Hi all,I'm a newbie to the group---in fact a newbie to this site all together! It's been fantastic finding out about it over the last week and finding out what other people are reading.
I actually live in Chehalis, just moved here a week ago, but there doesn't seem to be much going on in this area, so I hope you don't mind my crashing this group! We just moved to the area from Denver, but before that I had lived in Washington state my whole life, so I still consider myself "native". I've lived in Vancouver, Bellingham, Seattle, Edmonds, and now Chehalis.
I just finished a book "Duplicate Keys" by Jane Smiley, but honestly didn't really enjoy it much, so am not willing to recommend it to anyone. I'm not sure what my next new read is yet, but I'll update everyone once I figure it out.
Thanks for letting me be a part of the Oly group!
Rachael
