132 I read (or read most of) Honor Moore's book. I didn't think the story was handled with complexity. It seems like a rush job to me, and I found it gossipy besides. (I read and reviewed her early biography-memoir, 'The White Blackbird,' of which I thought very highly).
So, in principle, I am not against outing one's parents, but Moore's memoir left me dissatisfied. As a memoir, I also did not find it artful (as I said it felt rushed to me).
I haven't read Bechdel's. It's been recommended to me before, so I plan to.

132 can't say about the name of group, but the woman is Edie from "Gray Gardens" a documentary film about a woman (cousin to Jackie O. I think) and her mum living in a derelict house in Long Island, very eccentric characters...

132 hey thanks Lisa/kd. I'll try to copy the link to post it. Btw, "Ants" is actually based on someone I knew (years later he googled me and found me, I sent him the story, and he said he loved it, that "it was all true." Funny since I'd made up much of it...but then, there's the issue of truth vs. facts, i.e. emotional vs. factual truth. Okay, let's see if this works:

if it doesn't go to www.jessicatreat.com and click on my book, and then on "read an excerpt"

Btw, an "old" story! written in the lates 80's, early 90's...
oh, feel free to send me something of yours!
cheers,
JT.

132 I wrote a story about a gay man called "Ants." (If I can figure out how to post a link I will). I've been told by several gay male friends that it rings true. I also wrote a story, "Little Bitches" which is a sort of coming out story for a lesbian, which a gay girlfriend told me I got just right. I'm not gay myself, but one should not underestimate the writer's most powerful tools: empathy and imagination. Along with the artful use of language, these are essential.
