LOL! I love that I am NOT the only one who keeps books in my car for traffic jams and waiting at car pool pick ups! I have several books at different spots in the house also that I read when I happen to be in that room of choice. Yes, I am a HUGE multitasker! :)
Saintseester wrote: "I just started Atlas Shrugged and loving it. I was scared because it is so darn long, but I got sucked in quickly. "That book has been suggested to me so many times to read and I haven't yet, I guess I have to pick it up and read it.
Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, it's long (over 800 pages)but if the flight is 15 hours you'll need something for the flight back, this book whisks you up and takes you away. One of my all times favorites.
As I was thinking of my day enjoying the first cup of coffee this morning, I decided while I wait for my child to get done swimming I was going to hit the book store for a few hours. I started to make my list. Then I decided to pop on here and see what my friends were all reading. The following question then popped into my head.
If you could only recommend one book to a friend to read what would that book be? Why did you choose that book for your recommendation? I am hoping everyone answers this question then we will all have a nice list to take with us to the library or the book store the next time we go.
Saintseester wrote: "Well, I loved it 3/4 of the way through. Then, not so much. It will be interesting to discuss it in book club later this week.Now. What to read, next?"
Exactly, I'm starting a new discussion on that very subject.
I have not seen a movie that has done the book justice. However that being said, The Field of Dreams is one of my top ten all time favorite movies, so I will be sure to read the book and let you know if I agree.
Ok so we all have read at least one in their lifetime, so tell me and us....what is the worst book you have ever read? Why was it the worst? Was it outside of what you normally would read? Was it recommended to you by someone? Did you finish it or bag it before it was done. You know the drill...drop your comments here.
Notameangirl I have NEVER seen a movie that does a book justice....NEVER. To me a book is like a movie theatre for your mind.
Thanks Jigme for your feedback. She has always been an advanced reader, so I know she could handle the writing. I'm pretty sure she will read them all this summer. I will probably shadow her and read along too just for kicks so we can discuss it together.
I tend to read all over the place genre wise however there are certain genres I never touch. This should be interesting for me and I can't wait to see how it develops. Who knows I might surprise myself and fall in love with another genre I never liked before.
Ok so I was thinking about reading today and wondered if any of you ever challenge yourself to "read outside your comfort zone?" Why do you always pick the books you do? Do you tend to gravitate to the same genre all the time? I have made it a goal of mine for every book I buy or take out of the book store/library, I am going to go into a section I have never bought/borrowed from before and challenge myself to "read outside the box" I challenge you to do the same. Drop your comments here let me know what you think, if you will participate why or why not. Oh and has ANYONE brought the wine yet?
My daughter just turned 12 ands so badly to read the twilight books. I am not letting her yet. I feel she is not quiet ready for them. Am I misinformed?
Today I am starting Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.I am currently reading:
Making Senses Out of Scripture: Reading the Bible As the First Christians Did by Mark P. Shea I am reading it more for reference purposes than recreational purposes. I will finish this book today.
Drop it here. What are you currently reading at the moment. Are you far enough in to give me an opinion?
Welcome everyone to my circle of friends. Bring your books, your discussions and some wine. This should be fun...no?
