For what it is worth, it's pretty easy to put down and pick up without forgetting what was going on. I've been reading it in 15 minute snippets in car-line.I usually read 2 books at a time. One I keep in the car for waiting in places where I get bored. The other is on my nightstand and is whatever one I am most into.
I just started Atlas Shrugged and loving it. I was scared because it is so darn long, but I got sucked in quickly.
I read Three Men and A Dog, a classic by Jerome K. Jerome while waiting in airports once. It's perfect for travel. But, it is probably too short for 15 hour trip. I also think something fast-paced and attention grabbing would be good such as Jurassic Park.
This question is really hard to answer, as it all depends on the friend and their attitudes, etc. I usually know when a certain book might not be someone's cup of tea if I know them well. That being said, I do have a couple of what I think of as sure-fire hits that I recommend over and over.Life of Pi, The Time Traveler's Wife and Ender's Game
Well, I loved it 3/4 of the way through. Then, not so much. It will be interesting to discuss it in book club later this week.Now. What to read, next?
Laura, I didn't know what to expect. I had not read or heard anything about it before my friend announced it as her pick. Will let everyone know what I think when I am finished with it. Which could be sometime in the middle of the night, LOL!
I started reading The Brief History of the Dead for book club the other day, and OMG, I can't put it down. But, I have to, because I must get some sleep.
I've had a few, and if I finished them, it would be because they were book club picks. One that pops right into mind is "The Innocent Man," by John Grisham - a true story. It was stick a finger down your throat awful. The other one was "I Know This Much is True," by Wally Lamb. Now I need to look through my one star books to see what else. Oh, yeah, "Shoeless Joe," the book Field of Dreams was based on. Blech!
I've been playing with my camera, so I am reading photography books. LOL! I just bought Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, and I hope to crack it open this weekend.
I thought The Lord of The Rings was done very well, too. My only regret is that kids who are the age I was when I fell in love with the book only want to watch the movie, now.
In a recent thread, someone mentioned that most movies don't live up to the book. A few do, though. I absolutely love the movie "Field of Dreams," but when I read the book, I thought it was so bad I was surprised it was published. LOL!
What movies do you think REALLY do a book justice?
I've been trying to read a book called Tailchaser's song, but I keep getting sidetracked!!! I haven't had much time to read over the past few weeks. I need to fix that.
One of the reason I love being in a regular book club is just for this reason. The other members will choose books I would not otherwise consider reading, and I have been surprised often. Each person, when it is their turn, gets to choose. We don't take a vote or anything.
