Now, I picked up on that right away. I thought Sidney was her soulmate, but they werent' married, so that had to mean he was GAY! But of course.

I never read about the occupation of the Channel Island, and have lately been discovering literature that addresses areas of the war that I don't typical know about. It has been interesting to read them. Among those books have been this one, as well as The Book Thief and the True Story of Hansel and Gretel.

This is a difficult question to answer because we only know of Sheldon, Mark and her fiance. Sheldon is gay and this was not even a question. Mark was an american and rich, and there might have been a culture crash. We didn't really know that much about the fiance except that books were not a high priority for him, and how could the two of them be compatible.

I think Juliet was just a simple person at heart, and the way of life on Guernsey was more suited to her nature.

At first, I was daunted by the idea that the book was written all in letters, but after I read it for awhile I actually forgot because it read like a really good novel with good character development. I really enjoyed it.

12544 I just finished I loved, I lost, I made spaghetti. I chose it b/c I am Italian-American and wondered what the author had written. It was cute!

Also, just read the Shanghai Girls. I chose it b/c I had read another book by the author and liked it, but I also like books about the Asian culture. It was a good read, but a little disappointing at the end. I am afraid that there may have to be a sequel.

Now, I am reading the The Guersney Literary Society, etc. b/c I tried once before, and stopped, but have wanted to read it. Coincidentally, one of the teachers I work with thought I would like it, so she brought it in for me to read.

Melinda, I loved Olive and wanted to read more about her. The book was cleverly written with Olive popping into most of the chapters.

What did you think?

12544 Hi, my name is Brenda. My on-line friend, Wanda, suggested that I join. I am currently reading a book called Shanghai Girls. I am not a book purchaser. I have a ton of books, and couldn't find one more place for another book. However, I take them out of the library all the time. I am anxious to see what great books you all are reading.

Have a marvelous weekend.

12544 I am not crazy about Faulkner. His writing is very difficult to read. I can't point out a specific book at this time, but there a few writers I don't like.
Hemingway is another one. I am not really fond of him or F. Scott Fitzgerald. Their books never grabbed me.

Brenda, the ladies have already read Guernsey. You could read it ..."

I read Middlemarch awhile ago. I would read it again, but I have these two books out on interlibrary loan and have to read before June 12. I am only on page 48 of the Shanghai girls, so I have to finish it before I can start the next one to return them in time.

One of the only downfalls of borrowing from the library
12544 when is the discussion? someone just gave me this book to read. it has been one i wanted to read for a while.
