I read quite a bit but I thought it would be fun to read with others, so I joined o.-

I think it plays off the mystery of carnival/circus life. You hear from all kinds of places that the life in these types of settings is mysterious, dangerous, and a different world completely. If the narrator told his story clearly and we believe everything, then it would ruin the atmosphere of everything. It's better that the readers still wonder and be mystified by what is told. That's my opinion anyway, I don't think the story would be as intriguing if we believed every word of it cause we trusted the narrator.
