1225 I'm another who is stubborn and has to finish, though i tend to skim through the second half if i'm really not into it. when i finish i always think 'thank god, now i can move onto something good'

1225 i read them chronologically mostly. The narnia books, i read 'the lion the witch and the wardrobe' when i was very young, but receiving the whole set years later i read them all chronologically, it seemed to flow better
harry potter i got the first 3 as a present on my 10th birthday, and accidently read them backwards, only realising when i got to 'the chamber of secrets' still enjoyed them though. (i think this was because they were ordered backwards in the boxset, grr)

with a new series i'll always read chronologically unless it says to do so otherwise because i'm worried it'll spoil one of the other books

1225 Ooh, i really want to see Blindness, the trailer made it look really good. I haven't read it though. Hmmm, book first of film? Whichever I stumble across first I guess :D

1225 I normally don't put music on, but sometimes I'll feel in the mood to. I usually choose either classical music or movie soundtracks(without lyrics, they can distract me), I find they can accompany books really well.
It's strange how listening to completely different music while reading the same book can alter its entire tone and the way i interpret it

1225 If I'm shopping and see a good deal on a book i've been after, I'll probably buy it, but I won't necessarily read it straight away, though I will add it to my 'to-read' list on here.
I rarely go looking to buy books I've heard are good, I add them to my wishlist/wait until I see them somewhere cheap, as I have far too many already!

I'm not really organised with my to-reads, when I finish a book, I'll have a look at my bookshelves and just pick up whichever one takes my fancy at that moment

1225 I have completely given up trying to control my book buying addiction now. The books control me!
I really don't know why it's so addictive. But books are fairly cheap, so it's not too terrible an addiction ;)
I can't resist a bargain, that's my downfall. I go into a charity shop planning to quickly scan the bookshelves but before I know it I'm dropping a big pile of books onto the counter. Oops.

Bookshelves?! (23 new)

1225 i have the same problem. i can barely move for books! i keep lots on my windowsill, which is good except for the little matter of being able to see ;) i find i still get the same amount of light in though unless the books take up more than 3/4 of the space
turning all the books on the bottom shelves round so they're horizontal rather than vertical made a lot more space
and i have a lot of boxes in the garage/kitchen cupboards i don't use

1225 Most books I enjoy more than the film. Usually I am disappointed by films as how the story shows up on the screen rarely matches and lives up to how I saw it in my mind, and of course chopping bits out, changing parts. Usually I feel I have to watch a film though if I've read the book - natural curiosity
It happened the other way round recently though, I watched The Prestige, and a few weeks later found out it was a book

A film I thought was equal to, or maybe even better than the book, was Fight Club
I love Disney's Alice in Wonderland and I'm looking forward to Tim Burton's version.
American Psycho!
Watership Down, that film used to really scare me
About a Boy, I love that film, the soundtrack is great too
Lots of people disagree but I quite enjoyed the Lord of the Rings films
I really liked Watchmen, even though they changed the ending (I feel it was necessary in this case though - if you've read it you'll understand how the book's ending would not work at all in a film)

1225 I've only read her short stories but I really enjoy them (a book I enjoyed doing at A level!), though I did find The Photograph for 10p a few weeks ago

1225 Book Thief was amazing! Glad I got round to reading it
The Yellow Wallpaper was also very good, particularly the title story(which I read twice) and 'if i were a man'
I've never read anything by Sarah Waters, I shall keep an eye out :D

Now reading Pack of Cards - Penelope Lively, and rereading Hunger - Knut Hamsun
and trying to decide on a third right now!

1225 Jaime, have you read The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter?
It's a collection of dark retellings of fairytales and legends, a few being Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, and Bluebeard

I've just started The Book Thief - Markus Zusak, I've been meaning to read it for ages and a friend lent it to me yesterday. It's actually very good so far, i tend to avoid books that are really hyped because I feel I'll eb disappointed
Also reading 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

1225 I also have three men in a boat on my to read list! It's actually sitting next to me right now

At the moment I'm reading Wizard and Glass by Stephen King because I decided to read the whole Dark Tower series
I'm also reading Eating Fire, which is a collection of poetry by Margaret Atwood, because me and a friend have a thing going on where we swap books every week and I have to give it back on Wednesday
