I am reading PIllars of the Earth by Ken Follet due to numerous recommendations from friends and family. I can only read one book at a time as I completely immerse myself in it. The next book I'll be engulfing is The Grapes of Wrath also because of recommendations. Though, I'm slightly hesitant. Isn't it supposed to be depressing and dark?? Any comments?I would really like to dig in to Twilight as well. I have heard it is absolutely wonderful--page turner to say the least and I love those!!
Well, thanks for the info! I will definitely get my hands on something about Eleanor of Aquitaine!! BTW the American West doesn't generally appeal to me either but, I was forced into it by my sister's enthusiasm over Lonesome Dove. I was glad I picked it up for sure!!
Courtney,Leon Uris!!! He is fabulous!! I just have had to come to the conclusion that I love historical fiction. I must ask, why can't you do McMurtry or Clavell?<--maybe you can't do Uris either?
Melissa,
Can the Outlander series by Dianna Gabaldon be considered Historical Fiction?? If so and you haven't read them, don't do anything else until you have! Especially if you loved the Josephine books! Romantic but not gratuitously so. It takes a little stretch of the imagination to get into but once that's been established...you'll never want to turn back!
I have just finished the "Josephine" series by Sandra Gulland. 3 books in all and well worth the pick-up!! It is about Josephine and Napoleon. I was riveted!
I would also like to suggest Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry and Shogun by James Clavell. Both are wonderfully written and hard to put down!
