Hi everyone, I haven't visited in a while ... I really appreciate everyone's suggestions. We read a lot, so it is always nice to discover something new and fresh. I have taken note of many of your pics (the ones she hasn't read thusfar) and will be including as many as I can in her Xmas stocking.
Thanks again.
I liked this book too, but I do tend to like all magical realism, which is not everyone's cup of tea ... this novels tend to expand long periods of time, involve an immense amount of characters and paint vivid pictures that might or might not depict a reality that is yours. My copy was in Spanish.
I also watched the movie and I enjoyed it for the visual parts of it, the customes, the set desings, the music and so forth, I watched it with my husband who didn't read the book and he was constantly asking me questions!!! He was lost. I think because the book comprehends so much of these people's lifes it was just impossible to cram all that information in two hours and therefore things got lost in the shuffle, making the story line suffer.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!
People no matter your race you can look into children's eyes tomorrow morning and tell them "If you work hard you can be President to-morrow!"
Congrats everyone who voted!
Ken - thanks that was a great link, lots of information I was not aware of.
Emma - too funny
Ann - so happy for you guys!
I just hope this kind of discussion its taken place in more and more places, blogs, etc. People need to raise their standards not be happy someone wasn't "as bad as expected".
Stephanie - I loved that book, I flew by it, didn't want to put it down. I liked the short story with the King Messenger on it too.
I am reading the Stand now, as it was noted by some friends that I'd remain a literary looser until I finish that. ;o)
Laura - I agree, we have had below average intelligence in the White House for far too long, I'm ready for above average any day now. I want to feel proud of our President when he makes a speach, I want to feel good about our economy, about the impact we have in the environment ... I so desire change.
Hi guys! I haven't posted in a long while, but I must agree with Jeremy with the fact that I don't understand how people can say Palin did better than expected ... what did people expect barking? meowing?
I have no political affiliations but a candidate that stands in a debate and answers no questions but instead just stands there and "vomits" little bits and pieces with a fake smile she memorized on some camp gets no respect from me. Out of all the smart, capable woman out there ... that is what we get? Shame, Shame, Shame...
Have you seen the trailer for the new Terminator Logan?
I just about started yelling and hooraying at the cinema when I saw it.
Ann, although I did love the book I hardly would describe her as a hero. If anything I spent the book mad at her for her lack of strong and timely action. One more reason to love reading as a group, I find it amazing how reading the same pages can spark different feelings in us.
Logan - maybe your October will be my September, that is ... used to catch up on the big pile of unread books I have at home. ;o)
Why didn't Bush? If this was general knowledge as a new president the safety of his people should have come first. Just as I hope the financial situation of the country will come first to our new president come next year.
Logan - I am amazed at how articulate you are. I do not afiliate to any particular political party, but I got to tell you my life was a lot easier when Clinton was in office, the economy was great and I didn't have to be embarrased everytime he opened his mouth, it is very sad that Bush, a man who has so much power cannot express himself in public.
Logan - thanks for the link. I will be dragging my husband to watch it, I read the article and I have to share this ...
"It seems the ashen world created in McCarthy's book is a lot like Pittsburgh." (LOL) well that takes care of my desire to ever visit Pittsburgh!
Ken, that is a very interesting point, there is a thread for the road under the book topic, if you were interested a few of us contributed and had very diverse opinions about the book and its characters.
