I've given up. I don't think I can go very long without buying books. Even when I think of all the money I could save (I sometimes spend $50 twice a month, it's that bad). Oh, well...
Well it's one thing when they throw the fact that you read in your face. But if they really don't have time to read, than that's different. It's actually understandable. Lately I haven't had any time to read, I can't remember the last time I finished a book. Besides my brother, I don't think I've ever had anyone tell me I'm wasting time. Most people seem impress that I can read so much and still have time to go out and do things.
I never had a problem with Hermione Granger's name, but that's only because the first time I read Harry Potter was in 4th grade and the teacher was reading it. Kartik's name is also a strange one, I pronounce it different than the rest of my friends. I pronounce it "Car-teek" more or less.
With other names of characters or places that I don't now how to pronounce I tend to give a's and e's an accent, or I'll roll the r's.
I caved big time! I ordered a series of books. On Sunday, I came home with a number of books (at least seven). And I know on Friday I'll be getting at least a few more. Oops.
I really need to cut back on buying books. It's my new year resolution, to not buy any new books (well not including sequels to books I am reading/have already read).
It never really bothered me how big a book was. I've gotten pretty good at spacing out while reading a ton of detail but still understanding what's going on. However I tend to go for books within the 250-500 page range. (Fearie Wars was a great book by the way.)
I have yet to read any of the books, they don 't have much appeal to me. But I know a good deal of most of the characters and how the series ends. I know what happens in the first and last book, but not the two inbetween. I don't tend to care about spoilers (well except when the Harry Potter books were coming out, and I usually locked myself in my room for a day or two to finish them), so it doesn't really bother me that I know. Actually I made my friend tell me how it ended, because I was curious.
I've never really been embarrassed by what I've read. My mother never really cared about what I read. And she never seems to be embarrassed to read what she wanted, so I guess it picked that up from her.
I saw the movie over the summer and loved it. It's one of my favorites, I've watched it once a week since June. I've been meaning to get to the book. I went out and bought, I'm hoping to get to it soon.
I tend to pre-order a week or two in advance. But that's only if I'm not ordering it online. If I'm ordering it online I might do it sooner (three weeks to a month ahead). Amazon does a pretty good job of getting it to you the day something comes out. Since I don't often have time to go to a bookstore, this helps a lot.
My books are in alphabet order (by authors last name). If I get the first book (in a series) in hardcover, the rest of those books in that series has to be hardcover. And if they're paperback same thing (but if I can't wait for a book to come out in paper back then I'll settle for a hardcover). I don't dog-ear the pages, unless the paper is thicker than normal because those seem like they were made to be dog-eared. I have a fiction and a Non-fiction section (they do not mix). I don't ever write in the books, if there's something I want to remember, I write it down, or I have these bookmark clips (that won't do anything to the pages). I try not to crack the spins of my book. And there are a few more... but I can't really think of them right now (there's just too many).
I hate silence, I always have music on, or the tv or movies playing in the background. I always feel like I'm going to go crazy with all the silence. Usually I listen to whatever music I have on my computer (which all kinds), or I have Disney movies playing in the background.
I really don't care about the covers (though I'm not sure I have one with a movie cover, though some of them do have stickers on them that say Will be/Is a motion Picture). I had gotten Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in movie cover, but then I remembered I bought the older version so it would match my other ones. And they tend to be cheaper, which is a plus since I always buy so many books. However I love my Wicked book with the Musical Cover, I even have Son of a Witch in a similar cover.
I loved it (though I didn't think I would at first, it was just something for me to read over Christmas vacation a few years ago). But once I got into it I finished it faster than I wanted to.
This year I know I won't be getting any books for Christmas *Cries* There is something more important (yes that right there is something much much more important than books, I would die without it). Also my mother wouldn't buy me any books, she would say I work and make money know I can buy my own books.
I can only ever think of two always. One is Sirius Black from Harry Potter and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle and it's sequels (though I'm not sure if I could ever put up with him in real life). Oh, and there's Iggy from the Maximum Ride series, it would be better if he were older though.
I don't really care, either or works for me. Only in series I like to have them all the same, all paperbacks or all hardcovers.
I ran out of books I wanted to buy... I ordered books yesterday, but they were books from two series I've been reading. The Sisters of the Moon Series and The Oracle Series.
I think that's the worst thing ever, is not having a book to read. I remember on my way to school getting a seat on the bus and finding out I didn't have my book on me. I would rush to the school's library as soon as possible to pick up a book. And sometimes I left my book in my locker (but that was because I forgot I put it in there), so sometimes I went home with out one. And once I left my book at work, but since I had been the one closing the store, I couldn't go back and get it. But now I carry two books with me at all times, so all is good.
