I'm reading Big Stone Gap right now, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The writing is bothering me (she uses really short sentences all the time) and the dialect is getting to me, as well. I hope it gets better soon!
I agree that P&P is a great Austen to start with, but I'm also a huge fan of Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. The latter is my favorite book of all time, though, so I'll always recommend it.

I wish I'd read Pride and Prejudice when I was in high school. I read it for the first time a couple of years ago and felt like I had seriously missed out. I know I would've loved it then, but I never picked up classics just for fun.
The books I enjoyed most that were required for school were A Tale of Two Cities, The Crucible, and Our Town.

I think you will find a lot of ideas by looking through this thread to see what people have planned for this challenge. I found this to be one of the most flexible tasks this time around, though. If there's a book you're really interested in reading, you could just go to imdb.com to see if it has already been made into a movie.

Yep, tha..."
Yes, the Sookie series is very popular. In my opinion, though, A Northern Light is much better than Dead Until Dark. I didn't like Dead Until Dark enough to want to continue on with the series, but that's just me. : )

Krista wrote: "Jamie, how did you like A Northern Light? I bought this for my 17 year-old niece, but might read it before I give it to her. I could add it as my 10.1 task also if it turns out I don't like the Charlaine Harris "Sookie Stackhouse" series. Also, do you think it is appropriate for a 17 year-old? "
I loved A Northern Light, actually! I highly recommend it to both you and your niece. I didn't expect it to draw me in as much as it did, and the writing is lovely. It's a book that should really make you think, too. There are a few references to sex, but it's not really bad. Being 17, I would guess that your niece would be fine with it. Even if you do end up using the Sookie books in the challenge, I think it would be worth it to work this one in as well.
I finished Anne of the Island last night for task 5.3.5.1 Anne of Avonlea
5.3 Anne of the Island
10.1 A Northern Light
Total: 20 pts.

I've been looking into this program, as well. It looks great and I'm itching to start, but I know I wouldn't be able to until at least a year from now. I hope everything works out well for you!

Oh, I know. I just think it's really busy for her right now with the enormous Summer Challenge just beginning. I'm interested to see if those last tasks were included in the totals too, though.
Marie and Joanie - Just wanted to let you know that Cynthia doesn't accept anything after the deadline has passed.
Rebecca wrote: "Cynthia, I just want to make sure you saw my last post of all my completed tasks (Post #: 6417). Thanks."I'm not sure if the last tasks I finished were counted either, but I guess it doesn't really matter at this point! : )
