Hi Lori, just picked up All the Names myself but haven't read it yet. I have read Blindness, The Cave, and The Double by Saramago. I agree that his writing can be challenging (he is definitely not a "light" read) but I am always glad to have read one of his books. Its like exercise in a way, kind of difficult, but you feel good to have done it.
Hi Lori, I really enjoyed The Cave but his books definitely require a little more focus and effort. I like reading these kinds of books in between "lighter" fiction...its kind of like exercise, a little tough but you're always glad you did it :)
Jen-I read gods in Alabama, and her second novel Between, Georgia. I found them both very entertaining and see that she has a new book out. Will be picking that up when it comes out in paperback.
Just finished The Cave by Saramago and am now reading Come Back which is another memoir. Don't usually like memoirs those this is my 4th this year....damn.
This weekend I bought The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver, The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian, and Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward.
Lori, I am halfway through The Cave and so far I love it. I read Saramago's The Double last month, which was also very good, but I think this one is even better.
Romance-I don't mind a good love story, in the midst of a book, but not the trite "Harlequin" variety.
Self-Help books-Ugh!
Westerns-Too dusty.
I'm just about finished with "A Piece of Cake" about a woman's survival of an abusive childhood, drug abuse, gangs, life on the streets, etc. This is my second memoir this month (also read "Eat, Pray, Love", which I didn't care for much). I am not generally a big fan of such stories so I probably not going to like it as much as others will. I need to get back to some fiction.
Hi Cindy....I really enjoy the Stephanie Plum books too. They're an easy read and the characters crack me up (I especially love Grandma). Did you hear their making a movie based on the series?

Hi all, just discovered this website about a month ago and love it. I had no idea such a place existed and only wish I had found it sooner. I hardly ever meet people in "real" life who love to read as much as I do (or who read at all, for that matter).
