I love Stephen Ambrose. Although they are sold in the non-fiction area, I like the way he weaves the story and the characters.
Band of Brothers is the story of Easy Company 82 airborne. From Training to the end of occupation in Europe. They made it into a mini series on HBO. But it was a wonderful book.
The number 44 is missing so I am hoping it's Roots by Alex Haley since I think it's a great book that is a classic. I hope it makes some list.
My favorite book that I think I took the most from was 3 Weeks with my Brother by Nicholas Sparks. Besides making me really want to travel. It made a goal of mine to read 100 books a year, which I have done for 3 years now. And I love the way that Mr. Sparks has been able to write from his life experiences. I want to be a writer like that.
Oh, I just read this post and I am so excited to share something that I hate. The word is "macabre".
All horror and gruesome murder mystery writers use this word to describe the scene or the violent death...but as an avid CSI and Law and Order watcher, I have never heard this word used. Just say gross, murderous, gruesome or something like it.
The other expression I can't stand is "Fair enough." If you don't agree with something, you don't have to say "Fair enough" and then argue your position. What does that mean? Who Cares? Why?
I just watched the Lifetime Movie "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" I was glad I read the book first. I didn't like the movie. The book was much better. Don't even bother watching. Just read. That's my two cents.
1- Who is your favorite character and what novel were they in? Becky Bloomwood from Shopaholic and series by Sophie Kinsella. Sad to say that I relate to her! She's hilarious.
2- Which book made you laugh the loudest? Baptists at the Barbeque by Robert Farrell Smith
3- Which novel made you cry the hardest? (c'mon boys, dont be shy!) The Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. Wonderfully emotional
4- Which Antagonist pissed you off the most and what novel were they in? Javert in Les Miserables
5- Which novel left you scratching your head wondering what the heck had just happened? The Time Traveler's Wife. I still think about that book.
6- Which book are you most glad to have read? The Great Divorce by CS Lewis
7- Which book do you think was the biggest waste of your money? The Good Earth. I will never get that 7 bucks back!
8- Which book scared you the most? The Innocent Man by John Grisham. Very realistic.
9- List a novel that you read because of all the great reviews and hype it got, but left you wondering what all the buzz was about. Twilight. It got better but it hyped up too much for what it delivered.
10- List a novel that others may not have heard of, but that you really liked, and would like us to take a peek at. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
I have been catching up on reading all the classics but the one I would like to read is Shakespeare. I would love to read all the plays and then go see them.
I love seeing which book Sawyer is reading. So far I have read Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, Carrie, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Flies, Moby Dick, Of Mice and Men, The Stand, To Kill a Mockingbird, Watership Down and A Wrinkle in Time. It's fun to look forward too.
I'm in too! I haven't read any on the list yet but I already have
A Thousand Splendid Suns
The Other Boleyn Girl
Suite Francaise
ready to go.
I've been thinking of this since I noticed the question. I'm not really sure. I would love to work with Stephen Ambrose. I love the way he weaves his facts with stories. Just to get a picture in my mind of how to do that would be a day well spent.
