1218 This is such a difficult list but I'm going to try to keep it to five.

1. The Grapes of Wrath - Love me some Steinbeck.
2. Memoirs of a Geisha - Didn't want it to end
3. Middlesex - Such a unique and memorable
character.
4. Nancy Drew Series - I spent a whole summer reading as many Nancy Drew books as possible for our local library challenge. I think it is where my love of reading really took off.
5. To Kill a Mockingbird. Will always be on my Top 5 list.

1218 I love thrift store shopping. Most of the books I bought look new, I don't think they were ever read. Sad, but I will definitely put them to use and then give them to friends or my husband so they'll get well loved. Funnny, I wasn't even going in to buy books. I'm going camping/hiking this weekend and was looking for a pair of pants but the book section always calls to me.

1218 I have been terribly impulsive lately. Thankfully, I've mostly bought books at a secondhand store and the library. Here's what I bought this week:

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
City of God by E.L. Doctorow
Crazed by Ha Jin
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Nifennegger
Underworld by Don DeLillo
Beloved by Toni Morrison
Point of Origin by Patricia Cornwell
Refuge by Terry Tempest Williams

The week before I bought the following new:

Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin
Sick Girl by Amy Silverstein
Moose: A Memoir of Fat Camp by Stephanie Klein
Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote

And, I'm now going to have to buy The Zookeeper's Wife from the library because my dog just chewed it up. She didn't just chew the cover, she chewed pages so I can't even read it. This is the first time she has ever done this and she is 11 years old. Oh well, my fault for giving her temptation.

1218 Logan, I'm still torn regarding whether I like the book better or the movie. In thinking it through I believe I like them both together. When I saw the movie the first time, I didn't get emotionally vested in it. When I watched the second time after reading the book it resonated much more. I don't expect this to happen often. Happy movie watching!!

1218 Usually I am very disappointed with movies adapted from books. I already have the characters in my mind and it's never the same when I see the movie as it is in my head. One exception was The Hours. I had seen the movie a long time ago. I just read the book. I don't usually read a book after I've seen a movie adaptation. Then I checked the movie out form the library and it just brought everything together for me. I credit the actors, director and screenwriter with creating such an emotional and thoughtful movie. I would say this time it was very much an exception.
