Hi all,
Just wanted to share that I had my second baby on 9/11/09 at 8:46 AM. Samuel James weighed in at 9lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches long. (Thankfully he was a scheduled c-section!) We're all doing well but I suspect it will be a little while before I'm back to my previous level of group participation! Hopefully I'll still manage to be around here from time to time until then.

#69 All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris#70 On Becoming Babywise by Gary Ezzo
I have a feeling that my reading is about to decrease since I'm having the baby Friday but I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to read so far this year.
I have to admit that I did not enjoy this book as much as I'd hoped. I liked the beginning but lost interest when the story shifts after Meg's wedding. I now know why I never got past that part when I was younger.I was bummed about Jo and Laurie too but my thought was more that she just didn't love him "that way"-something we see over and over again in books and movies today. They were friends and she didn't have romantic feelings for him. Of course I keep picturing Christian Bale as Laurie and wonder how that could be possible but that's just me!
Totally agree with everyone that a Tim Burton type of film would be awesome-that's what I pictured too. The beginning was rough but thankfully it was over soon. I liked how all the lessons Bod was being taught by (why can't I remember her name) came into play later-love when that happens.
I think a sequel would be awesome!
#66 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson#67 Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
#68 Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Just finished task 25.1 read Pride and Prejudice and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Final total 430 pts!!
Just finally finished my second book for the Initials task 15.10. My initials are JW and I read The Jane Austen Book Club and Wide Sargasso SeaTotal as of 8/31/09-405.
I have 20 pages left on another book that will complete a two book challenge so I'm hoping to get in a few more points before midnight!
I don't know Susanna. I thought she made a call to a secretary of someone to whom he owed money and gave his name and location. I have only a vague recollection about someone making someone get an abortion-was it Wennestrom? I already passed my book on to a friend from work so I don't have the page number but I read that part a few times to try and figure out what Salander was referring to with that line. Weird.
Just finished task #5.9-read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Updated total-390 pts.
I may actually break 400 for this one-a personal record!
I'm about a month behind on this one-I just finished last night. Like many others, I felt like it took a while for the story to get started (like there was a lot of backstory) but I have to say that I even enjoyed that part. I was less annoyed that Blomkvist and Salander hooked up than I was by the way he dropped her so quickly and went back to Erika-it felt totally random to me. Not that I expected them to ride off into the sunset together but there were together for the holiday, he comments that she seems more distant-then wham, he's off again.
I was a little confused by Cecelia's reaction to Blomkvist-she was so hot and cold with him and did such a 180 I kept expecting there to be more to her story. I guess she was just supposed to be another woman who was damaged by a man and couldn't trust as a result but it felt like an extreme shift for me.
As for Salander burning the books and dumping the computer I agree with what was already said-it was her way of protecting the victims from further exploitation. Their families could have closure without the gory details being splashed all over the place.
I think Salander never fought to be her own guardian for two reasons-one is that it was socially beyond her scope. In order to do so she would have had to speak to people, tell her story etc-something she was not capable of doing. I also think when someone is repeatedly victimized they don't see any other way. Who would ever believe her or help her or listen to her when no one ever had before? For her I'm sure it seemed like there were no safe people to turn to anywhere. The whole way the guardianship process worked in Sweden was really interesting to me. I help families with the guardianship process all the time but in just about every instance it is the family who pursues guardianship-not the state (or whatever the equivalent would be)-I wonder if things are still like that in Sweden.
Now that I've rambled on and on I do have one thing I was confused about. After Salander transfers all the money (did she keep it all herself or was she going to do something else with it? I wasn't sure if I missed something there.) and Wennestrom is on the run she says something about it not being any of her business but then she remembers a once pregnant woman dying with her head in her own bath and she makes the call to give Wennestrom's location. Where did that come from? Is she saying that Wennestrom committed that crime or was she going back to Martin and his crimes but then what about that made her decide to disclose Wennestrom's location? Did I miss something or is that something that will be explained in book #2?
Just finished tasak 5.1-read Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris which takes place in a small town in Arkansas.Total as of 8/26/09-385 pts.
Doesn't Joey put the book in the freezer when he gets to a sad part? I think he does it when he gets scared by The Shining too-too funny!
