Our city, Carlsbad in So. Cal., has two libraries--one old (comfortable and loved) and one new (modern, beautiful, and airy)
The new one, Dove Library, has an interior of birch wood and tile. I do much of my pre-library time using the on-line convenience--searching, holding, and asking them to order more of an enjoyed series on DVD.
I try to go into the Cole Library whenever I am going down to the village. I love looking through their used books ($1), magazines (especially Bon Appetit)
for $.25, and paperbacks for $.25. Both have a great children's section with many activities for preschoolers. The Cole Library has a very good genealogy division. It is wonderful to have such well-stocked, pleasant libraries to spend as much time as you'd like.
Lori, a new adventure is always so exciting. Keep it going. I'd like to add in once in awhile. Thanks for all the work you do for us all.

I enjoy taking books that relate to the area I am traveling. I read Pompeii while in S. Italy, Timeline in Paris, and P. Gregory's Henry VII books while in England. If I run out of reading, I enjoy visiting bookshops along the way.

Well, I joined this group awhile back. I'm enjoying the Summer Reading Challenge alot! It's the most books I've ever read in such a short time!..."
Hi Buddhaflakes,
I read Life of Pi while traveling through Italy.
I remember being in Cinque Terre (favorite place) while totally engrossed in the angst between the characters. Great book that stays with you long after the read.
I wandered in B&N to buy a CD and left the store with 4 new books instead. The willpower to resist is just non-existent.

Oops...it is old London...but you still might like it.

And the other one that goes with it--White Rose

Yes. However, they are cuddles of love--too cute.

Me, too. However, I have 3 Persian cats and one likes to 'shake me up' by scratching on my bedroom chair. I jolt awake ready for action to go after her, look at my clock, and know that I will never go back to sleep. I make quilts so I can cover my furniture before I head upstairs to sleep

Oh yes. The Twilight series I read right on through.
Diana Gabaldon, The Highland series, I read really fast--loved them and didn't want it to end. I know she has another added to the series coming up in Sept. (I think) Sometimes I get into a book and look over at the clock--1 a.m., 2 a.m., etc. Which is really funny because if I'm not into a book, I nod out fairly early--10.

Nicely stated.

Fiona,
This is true. Sometimes, I can't find the book in the library, so I have to buy it. If it isn't one I am feeling a connection with, I feel I am struggling to finish and could have spent my money on something different. However, we all don't ejoy the same type of read.

I'm sure on Tuesday, since we just read The Help, the food will be based on southern cooking, i.e. Southern Iced Tea, biscuits, mud pie, etc.

I live in S. Cal and have friends that belong to not only one, but two. So bookclubs are quite active down here and lots of fun. We get together to discuss and usually have a party (or appetizers) around the theme of the book. Some have been very creative.

Oh yes! I just finished The Help which was about a 3 day read--totally ejoyed it. For me it was very thought-provoking. My bookclub meets Tuesday to discuss the book and can't wait to hear everyone's opinion. Next up is The God of Animals but I can't start it too soon so I will do 'fillers' until the date of our next meeting approaches.

I would read more if it was my only hobby but i also like to draw and play guitar "
Hi Jo,
I am a fiber artist and totally addicted to quilting.
So, I do split my time between sewing and reading (and gardening a succulent backyard and creating in the kitchen--used to teach cooking).
I will never take more than a week to read any book.
Some books I'll read from cover to cover in one night;
a really good suspense is like going to the gym for a cardio workout.

Dan, you were the first to send me a note on Goodreads with such a kind birthday wish. I hope your day is blooming into a beautiful celebration for you to remember. Happy Birthday, friend, with lots of smiles.
