No, have not read those three but definitely will put them on my to-read list...many thanks!
Recently finished La's Orchestra Saves the World (4 stars), The Pleasure of my Company (4 stars), and Um. . . Slips, Stumbles, and Verbal Blunders, and What They Mean (3 stars). Now reading and very much enjoying The Day the Falls Stood Still.
Recently finished The Broken Teaglass A Novel, A Corpse in the Koryo, and Sink Reflections. The first two were slightly disappointing. Sink Reflections, however, spurred me on to get my house cleaned and organized...hopefully, long term :-) Now I'm reading Eli the Good.
Recently finished reading Nicholas and Alexandra and The Tricking of Freya. Both were 4 star books for different reasons. I have to say, Christina Sunley's writing style and subject matter were refreshingly unique. Now I'm reading A Corpse in the Koryo.
Finished reading Benny & Shrimp. Endearing in a quirky way. Gave it 3 stars. After reading The Kitchen Boy A Novel of the Last Tsar, I was looking for something more in depth about the Romanovs. A GoodReads friend recommended Nicholas and Alexandra, which I am currently reading.
Finished reading The Double Bind and gave it 3 stars. Presently, I am very drawn in to Her Fearful Symmetry A Novel.
Mary wrote: I loved The Double Bind. How are you liking it so far?
So far, I am into it. We'll see what I think by the end of the story. To be perfectly honest, this is the first book written by Chris Bohjalian that I have read. I lived for fifteen years in the same area of Vermont where he resides and also references in his stories, so for some reason up until now, I was not all that interested. I love to get lost in a book, and its not as much fun to "imagine" the scenery when I can actually picture the real towns, streets, buildings, houses, restaurants, etc. that he mentions. The "realness" of his settings takes something away for me. I'll try to be a big girl and get over it :-)
Recently finished Shop Class as Soulcraft An Inquiry Into the Value of Work, 3 stars, and Chasing Windmills, 4 stars. Now reading The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian.
Just finished Jarrettsville...4 stars...have not read many (if any) Civil War Era stories and I ended up really enjoying this one! Now onto Chasing Windmills and Shop Class as Soulcraft An Inquiry Into the Value of Work.
Finished reading The Girl Who Played with Fire, 4 stars, and The Man in the Picture, also 4 stars. Presently, I'm reading Jarrettsville by Cornelia Nixon.
Michelle♥ wrote: "Oh my gosh! I am literally kicking myself for have waiting so long to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.Hi Michelle and Jessica,
Okay...you convinced me to read Fahrenheit 451. Yes, there are those of us who STILL have not read it. However, you both sound so enthusiastic, I just have to give it a try!
Jennifer wrote: "Today, I am going to start The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde."Hi Jennifer,
I'm curious to hear your opinion of The Eyre Affair after you read it. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the story, and I ended up getting #2 in the series, Lost in a Good Book to read next.
Just finished The Secret of Lost Things A Novel and gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed this story...I am surprised it has received low ratings from other GoodReaders. I thought the characters and the "mystery" were great! Right now I'm reading The Man in the Picture and The Girl Who Played with Fire.
Recently finished Catching Fire and liked it...gave it 4 stars. This is the sequel to The Hunger Games. I'm currently reading The Secret of Lost Things A Novel.
Currently reading Catching Fire (I'm psyched...I loved The Hunger Games ) as well as a book of short stories entitled Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It. Recently finished The Eyre Affair and surprisingly enjoyed it (4 stars), as this is not a typical genre for me to read.
Ashley wrote: "Finally finished The Shadow of the Wind... BUT IT WAS AMAZING.
Ashley, The Shadow of the Wind and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close are two of my favorites, too! Glad you're enjoying them :-)
I'm currently reading The Help and am truly drawn in to the development of the characters. What a well written story! It's due back at the library in two days, so I better get reading...I'm only about 1/3 of the way done. Now that school is back in session, I haven't had as much non-exhausted time for reading (yes, I'm having severe withdrawal since the summer break ended).
Finished reading Cast the First Stone. I really enjoyed the characters in this book! The setting was a great "change of venue" for me. Well written mystery with interesting twists! Now, on to The Help.
